    Ashley and Spencer catch up.

     

    I walked farther in to the kitchen, “Significant other?”

     

    Spencer seemed to fight for an answer, “Umm…yeah.”

     

    “Boyfriend?”

     

    “Girlfriend, actually.”

     

    I was shocked, “Oh. Been together long?”

     

    “About four and a half years off and on years.” There was silence, “What about you? Any significant others in your life?”

     

    I looked down at the floor and shook my head, “Not really.”

     

    “Ahh…I take it that the old Ashley Davies resurfaced after high school?”

     

    “Kinda. I went to college and I submerged myself into studying in order to finish my degree early. I really never allowed myself to let anyone else in after…” I looked back up into her blues.

     

    “After high school?”

     

    I always knew Spencer was smart, “Yeah.”

     

    Spencer turned away, “Ash, I’m sorry. I never meant to hurt you.”

     

    “It doesn’t matter anymore Spence. Our lives would’ve taken us in different directions anyways. A relationship like ours would’ve…I dunno…fallen apart somehow.”

     

    “Two teenagers finding their true loves in high school…yeah I’ve heard that story before.” Spencer went over to the stove and checked the pot that was on one of the burners.

     

    “It’s nice that you’ve found someone though. I’m happy for you. What’s her name?”

     

    “Shelby. You’ll meet her at the reading of the will on Friday.” Spencer almost seemed like she was disappointed.

     

    “Where’d you meet her?”

     

    “I met her at Glen’s wedding. She was a wedding guest of his wife’s.”

     

    “Whoa…Glen got married? To who?”

     

    “This girl he met his junior year of college. Her name is Andrea.”

     

    “Things have really changed around here since I’ve been gone. What about Clay?”

     

    “He went to college, got a degree in international trading. He’s also married, has two great kids.”

     

    “Who did he end up with?” I grabbed an apple that was lying in a bowl on the counter.

     

    “Unbelievably, Chelsea. They worked through everything and managed to both go to college and get great jobs.”

     

    “Aww, that’s great. They always were great together.” I took a bite out of the apple. I stared at Spencer as she cooked. She hadn’t changed much. She did look older, but not in a bad way. She still had the same great body that she did back in high school. Her hair was a little different, it was cut shorter, just above her shoulders, it still looked great on her, “So where’s your mom?”
