The best year ever – (Chapter: Reasons)

    “Come on guys…this calls for a celebratory lunch…lets go…”

The trio headed out and soon they were enjoying a late lunch with Aiden and Ashley doing most of the talking while Spencer was engrossed in her food.  Ashley shot her a few weird stares here and there but Spencer managed to avoid them and any kind of eye contact with the brunette for the duration of the meal.  As soon as it was over Aiden suggested hitting up a party later and Ashley said she would call him if her and Spencer felt up to it.  He nodded knowingly.

“Up for it…okay…well you two have fun…just save some energy for this weekend Ash…”

“You know me…first cousin of the Energizer Bunny…”

Aiden laughed and headed to his car as Ashley and Spencer headed in the other direction.  Spencer had caught a ride to Starbucks with Aiden and told him that Ashley could drop her off, but now she kind of wished she didn’t have to ride home with Ashley because she knew Ashley was going to ask her about Saturday.  Spencer braced herself for the conversation that was about to happen.  No sooner had the girls settled into the Porche when Ashley gave Spencer a warm smile and placed her hand gently on Spencer’s thigh.

    “Hey whats the matter?”

    “Nothing…”

“So you want to come with me on Saturday or did you want to go with Aiden.  I have to be there at 6 for a sound check.  I mean you can hang out, but it might be boring for a little while…”

Spencer just kind of smiled at Ashley and shook her head no.

    “Um Ash…about Saturday…”

“Yeah?  Its awesome right?  I wonder whose going to be there…this definitely has potential Spence…Spence?”

    “Huh?”

“Okay why am I the only one excited here?  What’s with you Spence?”

Spencer fiddled with her sleeve a little and gave Ashley a guilty look.

“I can’t make it Ash…I have to go to San Diego remember?  To see my mom…”

Ashley glared at Spencer before sitting back roughly in her seat and grabbing her steering wheel in frustration.  She knew this wasn’t Spencer’s fault and she did have some memory of a vague conversation where Spencer said that she was going somewhere over the weekend.  She just really hated that it was THIS weekend.  Sometimes Ashley swore her life was cursed.
