«I’d like to speak to Dr Morris please…»
«Who may I say is calling?»
«Bette Porter, I’m a friend of hers»
«One moment please»
Bette waited a few minutes, then a familiar voice came on the line. «Bette, how nice to hear from you. It’s pretty early for you to call, is anything wrong?»
«My wife Tina… found a lump in her breast last night and I wanted to know if you could see her»
«All right… Oh, I had a cancellation this morning at ten. Can you and Tina make it?»
Bette sighed with relief. «We’ll be there»
«Bette, I know you and Tina must be worried, but it could be a number of things»
«I know, we just want some answers pretty quickly»
«I understand… I’ll see you both later»
Bette hung up and turned to Tina who was still sitting in bed. «We have an appointment a ten. I’ll call Phyllis to let her know I won’t be in today»
«Don’t say anything to her please…», Tina begged.
Bette sat next to her and stroked her arm. «Of course I won’t baby… Hi Phyllis ? It’s Bette. I won’t be in today, can you get a sub for me ?……. It’s personal, I’d rather not say at this time…… I know, but please, I wouldn’t ask you if it wasn’t important….. OK, thank you very much Phyllis, I really appreciate that»
She gave the phone to Tina. «You better do the same with your office», she told Tina while she went into the bathroom for a shower. She took off her pj’s and walked into the shower. She turned the water on… and the tears started flowing. She cried silently so that Tina couldn’t hear her. She was so scared, but she didn’t want Tina to see her falling to pieces. The poor baby didn’t need to see her as an emotional wreck, she had to concentrate on herself. Taking a deep breath, she regained control of her emotions, like she had always been able to do and got out of the shower.
When she got back to the bedroom, Tina was already dressed. «I can fix you breakfast if you want. We have time», Bette said in a soft spoken tone.

As sad as it is, breast cancer is something many women have to face…I have loved how you handled it so far – the fear, the helplessness…I just hope Tina is able to fight through it!!

Talk about drama, it is a good thing Tina has Bette to help her through this crisis.If it is the big C I have faith that modern medicin will get Tina through this. Love your writing pps.

If it is cancer, will she have to forego having a baby b/c the estrogen levels rise and feed the cancer cells?
I wa very happy and very sad to see that Tina has Breast Cancer but I have lost to women in my family to it so I am glad to see this. I so hope that T&B will get through this and be stronger for it. It is Breast Cancer month so thank you. PPVS

Hey Milady, Great to have you tactling such an important issue among women today. Breast cancer is treatable. The earlier it is noticed than the better the chances of recovery. I don’t want this story to down play the seriousness of this illness and I want it to show how people cope and survive it. Please continue soon. Having known a few women who have had breast cancer, I understand that this is a part of our daily lives. But this is FF and were looking for happiness so could you please fix it.
ooooh, didn’t see that coming…this was not one of your loving, fuzzy chapters, Milady. I’m hoping for an eventual recovery… please. My youngest sister died of breast cancer one year ago Oct. 7th so reading this gave me chills.
