A Perfect Design–Chapter 4

**********************
Tina made her way to her office after stepping off the elevator and heard her cell phone ring. After glancing at the caller ID she sighed and answered it.
”Hello?”
”Hey Tina”
”Hey Mom”
”Today would have been his 18th birthday”
Tina sat down and stared at the picture on her desk.
”Yes Mom I know. I ordered flowers to be sent to the cemetery. Please make sure they are there at his grave”
”I will. But Tina, You are going to have to come home sooner or later and deal with this”
”Mom. It’s been 15 years. There is nothing to deal with. Jacob is gone and he isn’t coming back and nothing I do or you do will change that”
”Tina. I know that but you haven’t even been back here since the funeral. His room is just how you left it and you have neglected your family. Your father and I miss you and we are still here”
Tina leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes.
”I know Mom but I can’t. I’m not ready. Plus I have patients that need me and I can’t let them down. They are counting on me to save them”
”Tina you aren’t God. You can’t save everyone and you can’t expect too. Jacob had an incurable cancer and it wasn’t your fault. There was nothing you could have done”
Tina felt the anger boil to the surface and immediately sat up in her chair.
”Mom! He was my child! My responsibility! I brushed off his aches and pains as him just being a fussy child. If I would have taken him to the doctor sooner then he would still be here!. I was young, barely 18, and I didn’t know any better and should have. And you didn’t do anything either when he would complain to you. He was only 3 years old. He needed me to be there for him, protect him, and I let him down!” Tina said angrily slamming her cell phone down and grabbing the picture off her desk. She held onto it tightly and began to cry.
*********************
”What about this wall over here” Bette said to the realtor as she pointed to another section of the office floor she was looking at. ”It is severely cracked. Surely you don’t expect me to pay thousands of dollars a month for this when this wall could split right in half at any moment”

TINA is oblivious to the effects she has on people and the kissing on the cheek is the door opening BETTE probably was needing. To lose a child however devastating TINA needs to stop beating herself up about what she should have done and remember the good she has since done in trying to find a cure and the quality of lives for her patients she has improved.BETTE is one smart lady.thanks
With the death of his son, Tina looks like
closed to their families, and Bette will

The entire constellation.

Harley96 so glad to see you back and posting again. I love this story and im so happy to see you writing again. I love the whole concept of this story. Tina dealing with so much grief and being a guardian angel to so many others, now being able to find her own savior in Bette. Please post soon!
Harley,
I believe that I absorbed the fact in the phone call between her and her mother that she hasn’t cleaned out her deceased son’s bedroom, much less belongings in all these years. Now, that’s creepy, very creepy, and interesting that Tina has this dark side of denial, or at best severe procrastination, not too mention a very patient Mother.
You foreshadowed a lot in the story with cracks, and buildings, and space being sought after and constructed. I definitely felt the presence and pressure of building things and emotions. Then, I wondered about the lake – a completely different image and thing.
Especially so, since you spent time on it being discussed and somewhat constructed in both character’s minds at the end. Now, I wonder what you have planned for the new lake. It definitely rules out drowning, as the cause of death for Tina’s young son, because she would be much less friendly toward those still waters.
As before me have said: Nice job, happy to read more when you post, and interesting beginning.

Love this story, anytime our girls are put in a new setting and profession such as a doctor makes for a great read. Sad Tina has lost a child to cancer at such a young age, herself included. I trust that Bette will help get her to face her past and fill her lonely heart. look forward to next post.
