    A Perfect Design–Chapter 4

”Bette Porter. Independent/Licensed Commercial Architect and General Contracting.” He read from the card then looked up toward the door Bette just walked out of. ”Shit” He mumbled as he stuffed the card in his shirt pocket while taking his cell phone out.

”How’s my favorite patient doing this morning?” Tina announced as she made her way over to Peggy who was receiving her first round of chemotherapy.

”Dr. Kennard? Your flattery will not get you any farther ahead than you already are with me. But I’m doing just lovely as this poison flows through my body” Peggy replied sarcastically

”That ”poison” will attack the poison already in your body. The lesser of two evils here” Tina replied taking Peggy’s hand and giving it a comforting squeeze.

Peggy smiled and nodded her head slightly before resting it against the back of the chair. After a few moments of silence Peggy turned her head and saw the sadness on Tina’s face.

”I’m not dead yet dear. No need for sullen faces at this point”

Tina smiled and shook her head

”I’m sorry Peggy. I just have some things on my mind today”

”Oh I’m sorry forgive me dear” Peggy paused and remembered. ”Today was his birthday wasn’t it? How could I be so callous?” Peggy apologized as Tina looked at her in shock.

”How. Uhm? How do you know? No one knows about him except my family”

Peggy smiled and sat up in her chair.

”Dear when I found out about my cancer and was told that if I wanted a chance to beat this I would need to come to you, I started my research on you as a doctor. But as I researched and went further back into your education and background I came across an obituary of a 3 year old boy. Words can not express my sympathy I feel for you darling. I know now why you are passionate about your work and why you chose this profession and I intend to do everything in my power to see that you meet your endeavors. A mother should never have to suffer losing a child” Peggy paused for a moment then sighed ”I lost my first child during childbirth 6 years before I had Helena. I never got to hold her and as devastating as that was I can’t imagine what you have endured over your loss.”

    1. Wow thank you for coming back to this wonderful story! I feel sorry for Tina! Not for long cause Bette and Peggy will put a big beautiful smile on her face. I don’t think she realize she kissed Bette cheek. Looking forward to more of this story.

Wow, what a incredible loss for Tina, but was she 18 years old when her son died?

Thank god she met Bette, I am sure she can put a smile back on her. I hope Peggy will survive her cancer, she is one marveleus woman. Thanks for the update!

    3. TINA is oblivious to the effects she has on people and the kissing on the cheek is the door opening BETTE probably was needing. To lose a child however devastating TINA needs to stop beating herself up about what she should have done and remember the good she has since done in trying to find a cure and the quality of lives for her patients she has improved.BETTE is one smart lady.thanks

    4. With the death of his son, Tina looks like
closed to their families, and Bette will
be the light that will make Tina finds happiness.
      The entire constellation.

    5. Harley96 so glad to see you back and posting again. I love this story and im so happy to see you writing again. I love the whole concept of this story. Tina dealing with so much grief and being a guardian angel to so many others, now being able to find her own savior in Bette. Please post soon!

    6. Harley,

I believe that I absorbed the fact in the phone call between her and her mother that she hasn’t cleaned out her deceased son’s bedroom, much less belongings in all these years. Now, that’s creepy, very creepy, and interesting that Tina has this dark side of denial, or at best severe procrastination, not too mention a very patient Mother.

You foreshadowed a lot in the story with cracks, and buildings, and space being sought after and constructed. I definitely felt the presence and pressure of building things and emotions. Then, I wondered about the lake – a completely different image and thing.

Especially so, since you spent time on it being discussed and somewhat constructed in both character’s minds at the end. Now, I wonder what you have planned for the new lake. It definitely rules out drowning, as the cause of death for Tina’s young son, because she would be much less friendly toward those still waters.

As before me have said: Nice job, happy to read more when you post, and interesting beginning.
