    A perfect Vintage

Bette had let herself be persuaded to go out after work.
"Come on, it’ll be fun!" the girls had said and Bette had reluctantly agreed having finally ran out of excuses. Not that she disliked going out with her  friends  but she was much more of a quiet person, preferring her own company than noisy crowded bars.
So, after a satisfying meal and a couple of deep coloured and rich, full bodied glasses of wine, she had relaxed entirely in her surprisingly pleasant surroundings and was ready to embrace the bohemian atmosphere of the East Village.
The little locale had all the charms of an old Tavern on the Old Continent. Narrow, intimate, dimly lit but where conversations could actually be heard and where the communal tables made it easy to meet new friends.
Bette sat quietly, enjoying immensely listening to the incessant babbling of her friends, punctuated every so often with bouts of laughter. She savoured her wine, sipping the heady beverage and trying to remember the trip she had taken to Napa Valley when she lived on the West Coast.
It had always baffled her to hear people utter words like bouquet, clarity, earthy, smoky and even floral when they indulged in a bottle of wine and her curiosity had been picked one too many times. She had therefore decided to book herself on an exclusive wine tasting weekend to learn how to pour, sniff, sip and feel a wine.
And she had come away, without the pretension of a would-be oenologist but with a renewed appreciation of wine and the confirmed knowledge that any words could be used to describe the experience of wine tasting, especially if those words sprung directly from the memory that a particular vintage would forever trigger in you.
She did not know then, how true the wine Master’s words would ring.
The small wine bar was slowly filling up with the relaxation seeking crowd of a normal Friday night.  The place suddenly started buzzing as the start of the weekend became instantly official and all that was on people’s mind was to have a good time.
Bette excused herself for a minute, needing to use the bathroom and when she came back out, noticed a new arrival at their table.

    1. Absolutely love Law and Order so when I read Alex I instantly could see the attraction. What a nice twist and the fact Tina got the Alex replica glasses was even more of a surprise I think. Hope you come back soon Kins. As always beautifully written x

    2. Kins40, I bow before you! I do not watch Law & Order so I have no idea who Alexandra Cabot is but from your writing, she must be a helluva broad! On a personal note, I mean all of your writing. Your play on words is magnificent! Funny, though, that you used the word, “oenologist”. Did you know that oenology is the science of viniculture, which itself is the science of making wines. So oenology is the science of the science of making wines. Talk about mind-blowing!

    3. Yea! You’re back :) I’ve missed you AND your writing! You just love to play with us don’t you (LOL). Having read (and thoroughly enjoyed) your Halloween challenge I should have seen the twist coming this time but missed it – AGAIN! Nice job and as always, enjoyable to read. Thanks for posting. Cheers! iHH xx

    4. Kins, great to have you back and you have done an exquisite job with this challenge. Must read again because Bette must have been dreaming about Alex while watching the show on tv. So happy to know that “our girls” were still together, I was a bit afraid at first. Should have remembered it was you writing this and nothing was going to happen to “our girls.” Thanks for sharing.

    5. Woohoo! So happy to see your name again Kins!! :-) lol… I was confused in the middle of my reading, about end of page 4, I was anxious as I still can’t find anything related to T!! And it’s only 2 pages to go! What a twist in the end! LoL :oDx thanks Kins for posting and sharing your story amid the business of the real life :-)

    6. I am so happy you’re back. I missed your stories so much. Bette and her blondes! You had me cringing at first thinking that Bette was going to cheat. Eagerly waiting for another story.
