    A perfect Vintage

She returned to her seat on time to witness a profusion of welcoming hugs and squeals of delight as friends were evidently being reunited.
"Bette… Oh good you are back,” one of her friends exclaimed, "I want you to meet my very best friend, Alex…. Alex Cabot….Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Cabot to be precise…"
"Stop it…." the now blushing new arrival gushed, "I’m off the clock… so no official titles ..please!"
Bette smiled at the embarrassed lawyer just across the table from her.  A stunning woman if she had ever seen one. Tall, very slim with shoulder length blond hair that flashed platinum in the shifting light of the wine bar. Her skin was smooth and flawless. So pale, it resembled fine bone china, fragile and beautiful. She exuded perfect breeding, no doubt stemming from one of the finest families New York had to offer, her deportment was almost aristocratic.
But more arrestingly so, were her eyes. The colour of those eyes to be precise. A territory, Bette instantly felt, she would enter at her own peril.
An endless sea of blue that she could easily drown into if she were not careful.
The Art collector and Gallery owner in Bette immediately searched, to identify the correct name of the pigment which coloured the beautiful eyes which were now looking at her as they were introduced. The brunette even went as far as running the spectrum of the colour blue palette through her mind; Cornflower, cobalt, cerulean, azure, turquoise, aqua… the blue of the sky even or that of a precious sapphire…. nothing came close to correctly identifying the colour of Alexandra Cabot’s eyes. She turned to the Great Master painters for inspiration, but even Vermeer’s Delft blue did not do them justice.
There was only one thing Bette was totally sure of, and that was that she had seen those eyes before.
    But where?
She searched her mind and was baffled when the penny dropped the moment the waitress came by to take her order.
Her voice, as it placed an order for a glass of Chateau Lafite further jolted her memory. Assured, poised, knowledgeable, a  voice a shade of an octave deeper than you would imagine on a woman of her physical appearance and that made her instantly sultry..

    1. Absolutely love Law and Order so when I read Alex I instantly could see the attraction. What a nice twist and the fact Tina got the Alex replica glasses was even more of a surprise I think. Hope you come back soon Kins. As always beautifully written x

    2. Kins40, I bow before you! I do not watch Law & Order so I have no idea who Alexandra Cabot is but from your writing, she must be a helluva broad! On a personal note, I mean all of your writing. Your play on words is magnificent! Funny, though, that you used the word, “oenologist”. Did you know that oenology is the science of viniculture, which itself is the science of making wines. So oenology is the science of the science of making wines. Talk about mind-blowing!

    3. Yea! You’re back :) I’ve missed you AND your writing! You just love to play with us don’t you (LOL). Having read (and thoroughly enjoyed) your Halloween challenge I should have seen the twist coming this time but missed it – AGAIN! Nice job and as always, enjoyable to read. Thanks for posting. Cheers! iHH xx

    4. Kins, great to have you back and you have done an exquisite job with this challenge. Must read again because Bette must have been dreaming about Alex while watching the show on tv. So happy to know that “our girls” were still together, I was a bit afraid at first. Should have remembered it was you writing this and nothing was going to happen to “our girls.” Thanks for sharing.

    5. Woohoo! So happy to see your name again Kins!! :-) lol… I was confused in the middle of my reading, about end of page 4, I was anxious as I still can’t find anything related to T!! And it’s only 2 pages to go! What a twist in the end! LoL :oDx thanks Kins for posting and sharing your story amid the business of the real life :-)

    6. I am so happy you’re back. I missed your stories so much. Bette and her blondes! You had me cringing at first thinking that Bette was going to cheat. Eagerly waiting for another story.
