    A perfect Vintage

    It was her.
    No doubting it now.
The very same woman who stood each and every morning in the queue, two maybe three people, in front of her, at the coffee shop.
Granted her attire was different tonight but it was definitely her.
It had never been the perfectly cut Versace, Balenciaga, Armani or Dior suits that she favoured which had attracted Bette’s attention.  Although she never failed to turn heads as she strolled in, headed to the barista station every day, in crisp Italian or French couture. It wasn’t even the heels, those four inches which added the perceptible sway to her narrow hips.
    No.
    It was none of this.
Nor was it, the conservative hairstyle she usually sported. Hair up in a neat bun which every so often she would let go messy, turning the strict laced appearance into that of an understated temptress.
Bette racked her brain, studying discreetly the young woman in front of her. Her casual choice of clothes did nothing to deter from her natural elegance.
She looked as beautiful as ever.
    But something was missing.
Something Bette knew was the catalyst of her now very clear attraction to Alexandra Cabot.
The blonde lawyer was engaged now in a lively conversation with the rest of her table companions.
"I think I will forever remember that summer…" Bette had heard her exclaim, witnessing how she squinted at a photograph which somehow was sprung from a hand bag and was thrust in front of her.
"Oh good Lord!" the lawyer had carried on, "Hold one second…".
And this is when Bette realised what had been missing. That last piece of the exquisite puzzle. The one which would have, no doubt, instantly identified the blonde angel in front of her.
She saw Alex reach into her hand bag to retrieve a box. A black leather box with a designer imprint on the top of it.
She opened it excitedly pulling from it what would help her delve further into the memory the photograph contained.
    Her glasses.
    Those simple black framed glasses.
And Bette watched as the plain frames were slipped onto the perfect nose to complement the whole delightful ensemble.

    1. Absolutely love Law and Order so when I read Alex I instantly could see the attraction. What a nice twist and the fact Tina got the Alex replica glasses was even more of a surprise I think. Hope you come back soon Kins. As always beautifully written x

    2. Kins40, I bow before you! I do not watch Law & Order so I have no idea who Alexandra Cabot is but from your writing, she must be a helluva broad! On a personal note, I mean all of your writing. Your play on words is magnificent! Funny, though, that you used the word, “oenologist”. Did you know that oenology is the science of viniculture, which itself is the science of making wines. So oenology is the science of the science of making wines. Talk about mind-blowing!

    3. Yea! You’re back :) I’ve missed you AND your writing! You just love to play with us don’t you (LOL). Having read (and thoroughly enjoyed) your Halloween challenge I should have seen the twist coming this time but missed it – AGAIN! Nice job and as always, enjoyable to read. Thanks for posting. Cheers! iHH xx

    4. Kins, great to have you back and you have done an exquisite job with this challenge. Must read again because Bette must have been dreaming about Alex while watching the show on tv. So happy to know that “our girls” were still together, I was a bit afraid at first. Should have remembered it was you writing this and nothing was going to happen to “our girls.” Thanks for sharing.

    5. Woohoo! So happy to see your name again Kins!! :-) lol… I was confused in the middle of my reading, about end of page 4, I was anxious as I still can’t find anything related to T!! And it’s only 2 pages to go! What a twist in the end! LoL :oDx thanks Kins for posting and sharing your story amid the business of the real life :-)

    6. I am so happy you’re back. I missed your stories so much. Bette and her blondes! You had me cringing at first thinking that Bette was going to cheat. Eagerly waiting for another story.
