"We have the whole day," Bette said. "What would you like to do?"
"This is your holiday too. It doesn’t have to be entirely about me."
"We can have breakfast in the courtyard, then take a drive to a few of the surrounding wineries," Bette suggested. "Before we come back into town to walk for more wine tasting."
"What time do we have to check out tomorrow?" Tina asked.
"Noon," Bette replied. "Casual breakfast here again, then one last walk around before we have to pack up and head home."
"You’re still going to stay at my place tomorrow night?"
"I’ll leave early Monday morning," Bette confirmed. "I’d rather have the extra time with you than the extra sleep."
"I’m patiently waiting to feel as though you’re ignoring me because of how much time you spend working," Tina said.
"I beg your pardon?" Bette had not the foggiest notion what Tina was referring to.
"Aren’t you supposed to be undermining our relationship by working too much?" Tina asked. "Isn’t that your pattern?"
"Turns out I liked working more than I liked the people I dated when that was my pattern," Bette replied. "And…I didn’t ask any of them to live with me."
"I vaguely remember parts of a conversation last night that referenced…did we talk about living together again? After we had been to a few wine bars?"
"That’s for me to know and you to find out," Bette replied.
"Were we actually discussing the case? I remember talking about marriage but…" Tina pondered silently for a moment as the pieces of her memory coalesced into a manageable recollection. "Oh my God, we’re not getting married."
"We were just talking!" Bette laughed. "I know we’re not getting married; it’s not even legal here right now."
"It will be!" Tina said indignantly. "In five weeks, when that decision comes down, it will be legal for us to get married in California."
"We’ll talk about it then," Bette shrugged.
"That’s not what I meant, it’s that…"
"Tee, I know you like your freedom," Bette interjected. "It’s fun to consider the possibilities. I’ve never liked anyone as much as I like you."
