Anatomy of a Breakdown Chap 7

“Fuck… you sit here so beautiful, so kind even after everything.”

“Bette this is not how I wanted this to go. I didn’t want to sit and blame you. I wanted to come and take responsibility. I came tonight to tell you that it was both of us. We both let it get too far.” They sat in silence attempting to digest all that has been shared. Tina looks down noticing the box at the same moment it catches Bette’s eyes.

“Do you want to open it?” Bette asks nodding at the box.

“Sure.” Tina takes the box gingerly in her hands and unties the red ribbon. She lifts the lid and looks down to find two charm bracelets. She lifts one from the box and brings it closer to her eyes.

“Bette it’s beautiful.” She takes a moment to look at each specific charm, a gift box, a heart, a wishbone, and a bird. “I… I love it.” Bette smiles taking in Tina’s wonder.

“They all mean something you know.”

                “Really?”

“Yes. The gift because you are a gift. The heart because mine belongs to you first last and forever…” She trails off for a moment. “ The wishbone for hope. The bird because you deserve to fly.”

“Bette…” Tina lifts Bette’s chin with her finger. She looks into her deep brown eyes and leans in for a soft kiss. “Thank you.” She kisses her again.

“I have something else to show you.” Bette says after they part mere inches from each other.

“Wait put it on me.” Tina directs grabbing Bette’s arm before she can stand up. Bette takes the bracelet and clasps it to Tina’s wrist. “Who is the other one for?” Tina asks admiring the gold on her wrist. Bette takes her hand and glides it over Tina’s belly.

                “For her.” She says softly.

“Oh Bette.” Bette takes Tina’s hand into hers relishing the feel of her alabaster skin. She helps Tina up from her seat and they walk hand in hand towards the house.

They walk into the house and realize everyone has gone. Bette lets go of Tina’s hand to search for them. She picks up the note on the coffee table.

    1. glad they r talking… and ii agree… that night when tina left bette and melvin at dinner… bette should of got up and left too… great chapter… PPS

    2. Hey denEmat, I’m really enjoying your tale. Delayed honesty is soooo much harder than telling the truth in the moment….the delay gives us too much time to speculate and imagine all kinds of responses, outcomes and it even alters reality somewhat. And the results are often as immediately painfully as ultimately rewarding. Its good that our girls are getting honest with each other. Thanks for writing. PPS.

    3. What a way to end a beautiful party with friends and family. Poor Bette, falling asleep when all she wants to do is spend time with Tina. Maybe they should not stay in the same bed but darn it, I think that it is a great idea.
