Sam still refused to meet Bette’s eyes. It was probably the only way she could keep her nerve to finish what she had to say.
"Tina, she . . she deserves someone who is always going to see how special she is. Someone who’ll never take her for granted and someone who won’t realize just how amazing she is after they’ve lost her"
As Bette continued to watch Sam, she could see the deep remorse in her eyes. It reminded Bette a lot of herself, after what happened with Jodi. She knew the pain of losing someone you really cared about and she also knew what it felt like to realize that maybe that person was better off with someone else.
"Tina’s always been heavily devoted and extremely loyal. I didn’t deserve her or appreciate her and I know she would have stuck by me anyway, struggling to make it work even though it wouldn’t have gone anywhere. It would have killed her spirit"
Both women sat in silence for a while, neither knowing what to say and both thinking about what Tina meant to them. After a few minutes, it was Bette who broke the silence, her eyes looking straight ahead as Sam’s had been.
"She really loved you, you know"
Bette didn’t know why she said it but she knew it was something that had to be said. Sam turned her head and looked at Bette in surprise, a sad smile forming on her face.
"I know she did . . but I was never meant to be with her . . you were"
Bette turned her head and met Sam’s eyes. They once again fell into silence but expressed their gratitude with their eyes.
"Ms. Porter?"
Bette immediately turned her head toward the doctor calling her name and was on her feet a second later.
"Bette" Sam called out and looked up at Bette who was looking down at her, "Take care of her"
Bette normally would have felt insulted as if she was being told something she already knew about but she saw the genuine concern and appreciation in Sam’s eyes. She knew on some level that Sam would always care for Tina and though it somewhat bothered her, she couldn’t blame Sam. Tina was an amazing human being.

I like the way it all came together, and I’m actually glad Sam stuck with Ava. Maybe one day, Ava will get to renew some sort of relationship with Tina and her friends. Lovely ending, thanks for the story. :)

I love this story so much. Second time reading and it just gets better. The ending is amazing. I think, most envision Bette proposing to Tina. Power babes appear to be in control and even possessive, but inside they’re often flailing. They long to be topped in many areas of life lol— not just in the intimate ways. If you’re that lucky someone, they’ll expose their vulnerability. To be strong is to be vulnerable. I enjoy stories where their roles are slightly reversed. Plus, dominant Tina is hotttt! Bette Porter-Kennard. Aw I’m swooning. So talented you are! ✨
