As Good As It Gets – Chapter 3

Bette was making her way back from the bathroom when she saw that everyone had taken their seats back at their original table and was now ordering desert. She noticed the way Tina was reading her menu but her mind seemed to be somewhere else. Bette hated the way their conversation ended and hated the fact that they had no privacy so that she could try to make things better. She didn’t want Tina to hate her no matter what complications that added to their current situation.

"Okay, I’m back. Terribly sorry about that, now where were we?"

Bette watched with confusion as her friend Helena took her seat at the table beside Tina, a seat that was a little too close if you ask her.

"There you are. Where’ve you been? You missed the entire performance" Ava’s question caused everyone to look up and focus their attention on Bette.

The brunette felt a slight churn in her stomach as she quickly thought about how to answer, glancing at Tina only to see the blonde’s eyes were back on her desert menu and she was deliberately keeping them there. Bette almost smiled at the sight.

"Bathroom" She answered simply and took her seat.

Ava, being Ava ignored any hidden message behind Bette’s answer and focused back on her menu.

"It’s pretty spacious, sort of a home away from home" Helena chuckled flirtatiously and grabbed Bette’s attention.

She glanced up from her menu to see Helena practically leaning on top of Tina and caused a wave of jealousy to course through her. Tina laughed at a joke Helena had just told her as Bette clenched her jaw tightly together.

"Uh hello? I’m talking to you, Bette" Ava tapped Bette’s arm and looked at her with annoyance.

"Huh? What?" Bette turned to look at Ava but not before noticing Tina glance at her.

"I asked what were you going to order. You know I can’t afford all those carbs so I was just going to share with you"

"You know Tina, the red velvet cake is delicious here. Kit’s staff really knows what they’re doing. There’s a yummy picture of it right . . here"

    1. 😌 ahhh the web of lesbian courting. Is it as simple as “dumping the one you’re with to be with the one you want”? It can be, but unfortunately our girls like things complicated. Thank you for the awesome post Miss Leah 😘

    2. I’m with Talaula that’s just the way it works dump the one you’re with to be with the one you want tho it’ll be much more satisfying when Bette leaves that Ava bitch then when Tina leaves Sam

    3. thank goodness neither are married. yay. so let’s get the story moving a bit more. nudge nudge. I am so glad bette found some guts to acknowledge her feelings and to confess so early. i just hope they do it the right way. can’t stand ava, i hope she learns that she has been taking bette for granted. at least sam seems decent enough towards tina.

    4. btw, i like that helena is included in the mix. it makes it more interesting and helps that there is jealousy in the picture cos it is the first clear sign of how serious their relationship is going to be. like it!!

    5. I’m really enjoying this story. I hope Bette dumps Ava very soon. And I hope Tina finds out what Sam is really like and dumps her too. Even if Bette and Tina don’t get together they need to get away from people who don’t really love them.

    6. One day, Ava will meet the right person. Clearly, Bette is not that person. Bette, however, has met the right person. She just isn’t free to explore anything with her. At least she’s coming more and more to understand what she doesn’t want and the glaringly obvious mismatch of her pairing with Ava. Hopefully, Bette just goes about everything in the right way. Tina, too. Thank you for the post, Liah! :)

    7. Woohoo!! An update from Liah!! :-D sooooo… happy!! Thanks for your generosity posting update Liah!! :-) the uncertainty and tension and chemistry is so palpable!! Good writing Liah! Well done! 😁👍You do put all the perfect words for the story and I can simply picture the situation as if watching the movie! The connection between Tina and Bette is bitter sweet. It’s so hard to follow your heart when all the norms and logic contradict it! I hope the bitter part would be gone soon and let them appreciate the sweetness in time to come ;-) … If there’s an award for creating antagonist character, I would give one for your Ava! :-) PPVS as I am pining for reading more! Especially after you end the chapter that way! ;-) LOL

    8. I wanna kicked Ava so hard that she doesn’t know what it hits her!…Talking about selfish…. …If you look in wiki..about selfish, I think Ava’s name will be in the FIRST PAGE….. .>
