Things weren’t easy there; the people Maxine and her group frequented were too rigid and dedicated to their jobs. Melvin never understood what they could gain by giving themselves to a lost cause; soon he realized his inability on getting his hands on the organization’s money.
However, the lawyer glimpsed his opportunity when a member of one of the local gangs summoned him to a meeting. The gangsters wanted to make a deal with him, he will provide them with information about the activities of the organization and they would pay him for each woman or child he’d let slip from the protection of Humanitarian Cause.
Of course, Melvin remembers his, then, pals in crime the men from the mafias like the “Pipos” and the “gulf’s kids” they hated Humanitarian Cause, because the nonprofit organization created by Miranda, Maxine, Peggy, and Mabel ruined their business, the drug cartel, the women traffic, the secret children slavery.
Those were the gangsters he gave detailed information about the trips Mabel, her husband Frank and Miranda used to make, and he knew that they eventually would be ambushed and killed. The gangsters failed with Mabel, but Frank was found dead and Miranda and her newborn daughter were never found alive.
Melvin didn’t care for all those poor people, all he wanted was money; he didn’t hesitate to trade his own son when the mother traveled from the States to see him with the boy asking for child support.
The only fear he got from those times was the prophetic threat that the mother of his son made to him, before he killed her, as a dark omen, ”one day the offspring of your nemesis and victim will join forces with your own heir and will come to hold you accountable for your sins, you will lose everything and will live tormented until the last of your days”
Adele: “Mr. Porter, Mr. Porter… sir…”
Melvin woke up from his thoughts, something isn’t right.
Adele: “what do you want me to do now…?”
Melvin: “I need a report about the missing files, who deleted them and if there is a way of recovery”
Adele: “yes, sir, I’ll see what I can do”
The tall man knew that one of the lost files was the document with the forged signature of his ex-wife, transferring him her part of the company, but Melvin was confused, who may break into his account? If it wasn’t his own daughter, as he already verified, perhaps it was Henry looking for the way to steal money from him by taking the files…, perhaps he had planned all of this even before coming to the building; and maybe he invented the story of Bette’s girlfriend to distract his attention, or maybe that blonde doctor was Bette’s friend. Now, the tall man is suspicious of Henry. He has to do something before his plan to take over the company will collapse, whether by Henry’s hands or by Peggy’s, now that Franklin is in a coma, anything imbalance of the power in the board could put his position in danger and his possibilities of having the highest percent of the company shares, his 15%, plus the 20% he stole from Maxine according to with the forged document adding the 10% of Franklin and forcing William to support him with his 10%, gives 55%, and with that, he, Melvin Porter would get the majority of the shares and the power to force his proposals to be approved.
