Bad Luck Bride
“Soooo, how are you feeling?” She eyed the bride in her white satin robe that was monogrammed for the occasion.
“Starting to feel a little pretty.” Tina said shyly.
“Well, I’m here to finish the job.” She pulled out some hair products and set them on the countertop. “Angie, I picked up those products you wanted. Once I’m done with your mom, we’ll get you all squared away too.”
“Thanks, Shane.”
Shane returned her attention back to blonde. “You want to tell me what you have in mind?”
Tina began describing the half-updo she envisioned so that it wore well with the tiara that Carrie had picked out for her to wear.
“When was the last time you worked a bridal party?” Tina asked.
“Well, when I was in Paris, there were some pretty high-society brides I worked for on a referral basis.” Shane smiled with a slight blush. “But none of those weddings ever compared to the first wedding I was hired for. Do you remember William Halsey’s daughter?”
“Oh my God, how can I forget? Weren’t you and Jenny chased out of there by all of his daughters?”
“And his wife.”
“Wait, what happened?” Angie asked, wanting to hear the details of the story anytime it involved her Uncle Shane.
“Nothing.” Tina said flatly making Shane chuckle.
“I’ll tell you when you’re 18.” Shane smirked.
“You do know that you have about 168 other stories that you need to tell me when I turn 18, right?” Angie reminded Shane.
Shane opted not to make a 69 joke to Angie in front of Tina, but couldn’t help smirking to herself about it.
“Please make sure I am nowhere in the vicinity when these tales are recounted. And I think that goes double for your Mama B.” Tina smiled at her daughter’s reflection in the mirror.
Shane’s eyes met Tina’s briefly at the mention of Bette. The bride-to-be could tell that Shane was sad for her friend. Out of all of their friends, Shane was the one who took their divorce and final break-up the hardest.
Before Angie, Shane was like Bette and Tina’s first and oldest child. They watched her evolve from a street kid turning tricks to get by to creating a well-to-do career for herself in the beauty industry. They were always her biggest champions, and for that she was forever indebted to them. It was Bette’s idea to help Shane pay for beauty school; a small mint that was paid back over several years’ time, but paid back nonetheless. Shane was fiercely loyal to Bette. Tina knew that it couldn’t have been easy to say yes when she asked Shane to do her hair for her big day; a day that would inevitably be without Bette by their side.

Nice story….is there a continuation to this? What happens next?
Great words from Shane…. I wonder if they mean anything to Tina?
If marriage does not enhance a relationship, then why marry? For many marriage does enhance a relationship its a promise to forsake all other possibilities and to commit yourself to one person now and forever.
My understanding of the four good luck charms is that they must be on the bride’s person to be effective. Having Angie as your object of blue would not count. Okay, Whatever….

Hi Martha,
Thanks for reading! This was just a little vignette. I have no plans at the moment to finish it. As I said in my author notes, I have many little wedding scenes in my head that I’m just vomiting on my screen to exercise the muscle a bit.
I think you are correct about the four good luck charms, but I suppose that is just another reason why this marriage is doomed if Tina is not abiding by the rules.
Appreciate all comments so thanks again!

Gosh, I never imagined I would ever type anything like this, but keep up this screen vomit of yours. It is, uh, delightful (you obv know that my first word choice was “delicious”)

I see what you did there.

Sad, this is a story on its self. Would love to see what is going to happen now.
Getting marriad because someone is easy, doesn’t speak to me as Tina madly in love.
Wise words from Shane to Tina.
I absolutely love Angie. She is so smart and funny.
Love the bond with both her mothers.

How can you be madly in love if you know that you’ll only be “happy enough” to marry someone? Tina is cheating herself out of true love, and we all know that.
Thanks so much for commenting Bibi! And I agree, Angie is awesome. She just might be the most well-adjusted character to come out of the new show lol

Thanks for posting, MeLL. Yes, a very good and a very Shane question. Tina accepting the proposal and getting married because being with Carrie is easy explains a lot for me. Taking the easy road with someone to simply settle. The other choice would be the love of your life and passion but the risk of being burned or squashed by it.
Looking forward to more of your vignettes.

After the exchange between Tina and Bette in 106 of GenQ, it seemed like Tina still harbored some resentment toward Bette about their relationship so it seems only fitting that Carrie is the exact opposite of Bette in that regard. But yes, she is settling. Relationships are hard work, but it makes it that much more worth it when you have to work at it. Especially where passion is concerned. We all deserve those breathtaking moments. Thanks for your unwavering support and comments Kiwi!

This story is excellent. I hope they use it in Season 2. Shane will always be Yoda and Alice’s mouth continues to be a lethal weapon

Hi Jane! Thanks so much for reading and for your very kind comment.
Shane is definitely intuitive and wise like Yoda. And yeah, Alice is a trip. I’m going to try to keep my expectations low for Season 2. Expect the worst, but hope for the best.

Shane will always be Yoda!
Love Angie and think she is the best thing to come out of Gen Q :-)
Look forward to more
