    Bette Forgets 14

    *Bette*

How does it feel to survive such a crime, I repeated just to hear the question out loud again

The woman before me nodded at this and I sat for a moment contemplating this question.

Other than the memory loss, this here scar, I pointed to my neck, And the fire in my hands I think Im handling it okay. Freak outs not withstanding.

This woman seemed to have no real reaction at this comment.

I mean I know I survived something horrific and Im glad to be alive

    Are you, she interrupts with

Am I glad to be alive, I ask

    Yes.

That was certainly an interesting question. Was I glad to be alive?

Of course Im glad to be alive, I stated in a tone showing just what I thought of that question, Why wouldnt I be?

    Your hands.

I look down at the hands that are resting in my lap, damn they throb, and back up at Williams.

Look I know I went whacko for a moment and busted up a mirror and my hands but that doesnt mean that Im not glad to be alive. I am thrilled to be alive. My life is going to take some getting used to granted but its cool.

Williams nodded her head to this and wrote something down in the folder in her lap, What caused the disturbance yesterday?

Thats a strange way of putting it.

Well I was taking a shower and

When you first started this shower did you look at yourself in the mirror?

    Not then.

    Ah, go on.

When I got out of the shower I knew that I was going to have to look sometimes and soI looked.

    What did you see?

I frown at this, A stranger.

A stranger? In what sense of the word?

Well I guess both literally and figuratively. I mean Im still me even after all that has happened but I dont rememberme.

Youve lost eighteen years worth of memories.

This was said as more a comment then anything else. This woman was very interesting. Had a different approach to things.

I have lost eighteen years worth of memories yes, I answer, That is kind of a scary thought. I dont know what has happened. I mean I remember some of the things that have happened in the last eighteen years but not enough to add a year to my memories or anything, I smile

    3. Girl, this chapter was awesome. And yes, you really were waxing poetic on this one. It was filled so much imagery. It’s sad for bette, but it’s really good writing. Loved this part:

Slowly opening my eyes I lift my head to stare up at him and this is when I see the glint of metal. This evil held a blade of six inches of twisted steel that reflected off what little light shown in my hell. Looking up in his eyes of fire I knew that I would not be getting out of here. Sending off the last of my hopes and dreams for this life I welcomed the eternal fortitude of fate.

Can’t wait for your next post!

    4. I’m glad you wrote, “I hope you liked” and not “I hope you enjoyed,” because that was so intense that my heart is racing and I’m shaking. Oh my God, rk1, this writing is amazing. The descriptive language kicks ass (how’s that for inarticulate?!) and the dialogue continues to move the story so incredibly well. Your stories engage me so completely; thank you so much for bringing such a broad range of emotions and experiences to this work. Pat yourself on the back for me, okay? Thanks.

    5. One word to describe this chapter is…DEEP. It just cuts through the core. I loved it…so much emotions…the way you described the cutting of Bette’s throat…idk…it’s like I was there, I felt her pain. Truly poetic…wonderful chapter Reba, thank you. Please update soon;)

    6. I was just catching up and wow what a great story you have going here and you tell it so well. Thanks I can’t believe you Bette she is sooooo brave. THanks

    8. “Waxing poetic” — indeed! Your use of imagery, very well done. It was more like watching your story unfold, then actually reading. Great Job! Thank you.
