    Bewitched and Bewildered…A Halloween Challenge

Bette, still standing looked around, stunned by what had just happened. When she’d walked into the meeting earlier she knew it was a losing cause to try and get the school board to keep the art and music classes, but she also knew she had to try. After all she and all the artists she worked with were perfect examples of how art could enrich people’s lives as well as strengthen an economy. Now, here she was…victorious and she still wasn’t quite sure how it happened. She turned around, looking at the back door to the auditorium and wondered once again who the blonde woman was.

Monday, October 31st 5:00pm Hwy 210 heading north

“We’re on our way Kit. I just got on the 210, so give us about 15 to 20 minutes.” Bette continued her conversation with her sister as she and her seven year old daughter Natalie drove towards Kit’s neighborhood, so that the sisters could share in the fun of trick or treating.

“Mommy, are we there yet?” Natty asked from the back seat. “I can’t wait for Auntie Kit to see my costume!”

Bette chuckled to herself and muttered, “Let’s just hope she acts like she knows who you are.”

    “What?”

“Nothing honey, just remember that not everyone is going to recognize who you are, so don’t get upset if they don’t, okay?”

“That’s okay if they don’t know…I know who I am and that’s all that counts, right?”

“Right!” Bette looked in the rear view mirror beaming with pride.

She looked back at the road wondering how she’d gotten so lucky to have an incredible daughter like Natalie. At seven she already seemed to have a strong grasp of how she wanted to fit into the world, and the type of person she wanted to be.

They came around a gradual bend in the road and Bette groaned as she looked out at a virtual sea of red brake lights. “Damn!” Seeing an exit just ahead she maneuvered them into the left hand lane, instantly knowing surface roads would get them to Kit’s faster than sitting in the parking lot ahead.

Where did that exit come from? Bette wondered as she exited the highway.

    1. That was a great post. So first the treat of the story and the trick of them never really meeting. You know that you must continue this story right, so that at some point, the two women actually do meet one another and etc., etc.

    2. WOW!! seeing a new post from you is such a great treat this halloween! But i think that this story needs a sequel i mean you cant just let this to end like that.. Bette and Tina have to meet each other again whether in the real or magical world.. So loved this, thanks Sea!:-D
