    Bewitched and Bewildered…A Halloween Challenge

Bette had driven on this section of the 210 almost every day for years and couldn’t remember ever noticing an exit on the left hand side of the road. “Hang on honey! We’re taking a little detour, but don’t worry, we’ll get to Auntie Kit’s in plenty of time for trick or treats.”

“Be careful mommy! You’re supposed to use your blinker!”

“Yes Natty,” Bette murmured distractedly as she tried to picture in her mind where they were and what roads she should take to get to Kit’s. She slowed as she came to a stop light thinking that turning right would keep her going in the direction of Kit’s. However, as she tried to turn her steering wheel to the right, it wouldn’t turn, and in fact started turning to the left.

“What the hell?!” Bette muttered in both confusion and with a twinge of fear that something might be wrong with her precious Lexus. Try as she might she couldn’t get the wheel to turn to the right…it kept turning to the left. A sharp retort from a car horn startled her causing her to release her grip on the wheel. As her fingers relaxed she could only watch as her car turned left through the intersection.

“What the fuck?!” She bellowed, thinking her mechanic was going to get a piece of her mind the next time she saw him.

“Mommy!! That’s a bad bad word!” Natty shook her finger as she chastised her mother.

Bette tried not to let what she was feeling show on her face, wanting to stay calm for Natty even if she felt as if her world was tilting. First there was the exit that hadn’t been there before, and now her car had taken on a life of its own. What the hell was going on?

“All right…all right…let’s just stay quiet for a couple of minutes while I figure out the best way to Auntie Kit’s.”

“Okay…but hurry please. It’s going to be dark soon,” Natalie whispered her response not wanting to upset her mother.

As they continued down the road Bette kept looking for street signs, trying to get a sense of where they were in comparison to Kit’s. Finally she saw a sign for Roosevelt and sighed in relief. She knew where they were now and knew that all she had to do was turn right on Roosevelt and that would take her towards Kit’s. But, once again as she tried to turn right her steering wheel froze up and wouldn’t let her turn. She pulled as hard as she could and nothing…the wheel wouldn’t budge. Bette blew out a breath of frustration as she watched the Roosevelt street sign disappear in her rear view mirror as her car continued through the intersection.

    1. That was a great post. So first the treat of the story and the trick of them never really meeting. You know that you must continue this story right, so that at some point, the two women actually do meet one another and etc., etc.

    2. WOW!! seeing a new post from you is such a great treat this halloween! But i think that this story needs a sequel i mean you cant just let this to end like that.. Bette and Tina have to meet each other again whether in the real or magical world.. So loved this, thanks Sea!:-D
