Bitter Endings, Sweet Beginnings: Part One

“Not well I should think,” said Helena in reply, her expression and tone holding a quiet understanding. “I’m afraid I find myself in similar circumstances.” Her smile became wry and she drawled, “Why else would I darken the good doctor’s doorway?”

Chuckling at this, Alice’s brown eyes held a flicker of amusement and she remarked with a simple but subdued honesty, “It’s good to see you, Ms. Peabody.” The way she said this had a soft affection that made the British woman flush slightly on hearing it. Alice then moved past Helena, lightly clasping her arm in a friendly gesture while doing so. “Tell the doc I said hi.”

Watching Alice go, Helena couldn’t help but feel a concern for the blonde’s well being. Any of the times she had seen anyone look that desolate, which was a unhappily large amount thanks to her work with the Foundation, it never meant anything good. In fact, it signaled the exact devastating opposite. Still, this was none of her affair. No matter how much the empty look in Alice’s eyes bothered her so. It wouldn’t be wise to get involved.

Just because Alice was close with Tina and Tina had made it abundantly clear she wanted nothing more to do with Helena. Having been raised to have manners, or rather, having been exposed to manners being viciously pounded into her until they were naturally innate, Helena wasn’t one to go where she wasn’t welcome, to reference the mighty Bette Porter.

But that didn’t stop Helena from glancing back and a tiny frown of worry to grace her brow on seeing Alice’s slumped shoulders and defeated body language. She reminded herself again the blonde was Tina’s friend. Tina and Bette’s. Surely they could take care of her better than someone who was practically a stranger as the heiress considered herself to be.

That’s what Helena thought until she walked out of the Dr. Bradshaw’s office and saw Alice sitting in her mini. Desolation evident in her body language, sadness on her face, head resting on the steering wheel of her car and upon closer examination as Helena neared the car, tears falling from her eyes.

Hesitating for a millisecond, Helena made up her mind when she saw Alice’s lower lip tremble, that she honestly did not care in the least whose friend this woman was. She clearly needed help right now and Helena, despite opinions otherwise, was someone who had always felt an overwhelming urge to help others when she could.

    1. Yes! You finally posted this story. I’ve been looking forward to this for so long! Hooray! I’ve already told you what were my favourite parts, so I’ll skip that for now, except to say that Helacious is the bestest ship of all and that all your interactions between Helena and Alice are so natural.

    2. leonore is right it’s a conspiracy of the best writers I’ve read in the fancfiction world. And yes, I’m loving helacious, despite the fact first at all I’m a danish fan. I’m really enjoying this. Thanks.

    3. Excellent! Between your fics and Sulky’s fic, I’m glued to my laptop. I love how you portray Alice and Helena and even though I’m a Danish fan, I really love the Helacious too. You and Sulky write so well that you can’t help but love it. Great job.

    4. I just knew that somewhere deep inside Helena, there is a lonely, love starved person, just waiting for the right person to find the goodness in her. I am so glad that Alice happens to be the one. I would love for Alice to be for Helena, what Tina is for Bette. Very good job. Post again soon. I can’t wait for them to get into the heat of passion.

    5. This story is amazing, I’ve really come to love the Helena/Alice fics, however few there may be. I especially love the fundraiser and Alice’s efforts to make it less painful. Please post more ASAP!!

    6. Absolutely love it – more please. You write so well – wow you can even spell and know something aboutr grammar (LOL). Seriously, this is wonderful. I have never liked Alice, but always loved Helena – pretty weird huh. But this Helena/Alice thing, has made me start to look at Alice differently – I think Helena is more her than Dana is – can extend her more as a person.

    7. WOW!!! Everything you write is amazing. I agree whole-heartedly with SusanH in regards to spelling and grammar. Your work IS AMAZING!!! I’ll read practically anything you post. Keep up the excellent work!!

    8. horray for helacious!!! this is the begginning of great story drieser. while i am a big danish fan, it is refreshing to take a step away from it and indulge in this plot. i for one, would love to see some helacious in season 3… and until then, i will relish in your writing. i feel that helena is a very misunderstood character because of the whole betta and tina debacle… most bette and tina fans that i have encountered just hate her… but i find that its always the character that is introduced in a negative light whose history and development i enjoy most. so i guess i just want to say, good on you for starting this wonderful story, and i think that you write helena bueatifully… oh and i love what she brings out in alice. ok i am done now, lol. 10 stars babe!

    9. oh my goodness dreiser – im not sure if i hate you or love you for making me love helacious this much! amazing – helena realizing that she was allowing alice to lead and had no problems giving control to this virtual stranger – phenominal. Alice in this – wonderfully sad – but sweet and kind – its not easy to be bitter, yet not negative! you walk the line well! loved it! im going closer and closer to the dark side!

    10. It’s a Sulky and Dreiser conspiracy; and it’s too powerful to resist! I’m officially loving Helacious. I always love your writing, and this is no exception.

    11. I really liked this one.. maybe Helacious isn’t that bad pairing after all. At least I like Helacious in fanfics, TLW is another thing. And this certainly makes it easier to accept what is coming in season 3.

    12. i didn’t think that i could like helena…but after reading these stories i can see her point of view…glad to see that she isn’t the bitch we thought she was…as for Dana it sucks but Alice can do better…besides think of the sex scenes these two experienced lovers can come up with…looking forward to your next post.

    13. Fuck! I put off reading this for almost a week because in my heart of hearts I’m a danish shipper. Which of course means, I don’t really want either of them with anyone else. But you are also one of my favorite writers on these boards and I knew, I just knew that I was going to love this story–And damn it I do.

Despite my love for the danish, I love this story. I love Alice/Helena and I can almost see how they are a better match for each other–almost. Anyway, great job. Loved the Mommie Dearest reference–My mom and I used to watch that together all the time and then my mom would always do the “no more wire hangers” scene imatation–so I got a good laugh out of that. I loved, loved the ending–it was sweet.

I will continue reading this story, it is to good not to.
