Bitter Endings, Sweet Beginnings: Part One
“Alice?” questioned Helena, rapping on the window and smiling sadly when the blonde jumped in her seat and hurriedly rubbed at her eyes as she faced Helena. “Is anything the matter?”
The automatic window lowered and Helena offered a hint of a smile which Alice returned. “My engine won’t turn over,” she said, her voice raw and rough with tears. “I’m waiting for Triple A.”
“I see,” Helena murmured and her eyes remained fixed on Alice’s pale features that were racked with exhaustion. In that moment she made another decision, the decision to help because she wanted to. She felt the compulsion and Helena had never been one to argue about where her mood often took her. As long as it didn’t have any adverse effects as she could see it. “Would you like a ride to your flat?”
“It’s okay,” Alice shook her head and vigorously rubbed her eyes with the heel of her hand. “I have to wait for Triple A to get here anyway. I’ll get a ride from them.”
Frowning at this, Helena found herself automatically asking, “What of Dana?”
Alice’s lip trembled then her face settled into a hard mask and she said in a cold and almost steely voice, “We broke up.”
“I’m sorry,” said Helena just as automatically, inwardly cursing her impulsive speaking habits. Voicing her thoughts without reviewing them first was one of the social foibles that even years of haranguing from her mother about it had somehow never managed to leave her. Much to her own sense of embarrassment. “I didn’t realize.”
“Why would you?” said Alice, shrugging her shoulders. She turned her head and their faces were a breath apart, giving her an excellent view of Helena’s smoky blue eyes that were wide and filled with worry. Inexplicably touched on seeing this, Alice smiled and pushed aside a lock of wavy black hair that had fallen into the bright gaze that captured her attention. “You have nice eyes, Ms. Peabody,” drawled Alice, her tone turning teasing and low when she saw the immediate flush to the British woman’s skin at her words.
“You are aware that I possess a first name, are you not?” asked Helena playfully, dropping down to a slight crouch and folding her arms on the ledge of the open window to rest her chin on top of them. She peered up into Alice’s eyes and grinned mischievously. “Or do you simply have a fetish for using women’s surnames?”

Yes! You finally posted this story. I’ve been looking forward to this for so long! Hooray! I’ve already told you what were my favourite parts, so I’ll skip that for now, except to say that Helacious is the bestest ship of all and that all your interactions between Helena and Alice are so natural.
leonore is right it’s a conspiracy of the best writers I’ve read in the fancfiction world. And yes, I’m loving helacious, despite the fact first at all I’m a danish fan. I’m really enjoying this. Thanks.
Awsome!!! continue
Excellent! Between your fics and Sulky’s fic, I’m glued to my laptop. I love how you portray Alice and Helena and even though I’m a Danish fan, I really love the Helacious too. You and Sulky write so well that you can’t help but love it. Great job.
I just knew that somewhere deep inside Helena, there is a lonely, love starved person, just waiting for the right person to find the goodness in her. I am so glad that Alice happens to be the one. I would love for Alice to be for Helena, what Tina is for Bette. Very good job. Post again soon. I can’t wait for them to get into the heat of passion.
It feels good to read a story where Helena is one of the good characters. Well done.
This story is amazing, I’ve really come to love the Helena/Alice fics, however few there may be. I especially love the fundraiser and Alice’s efforts to make it less painful. Please post more ASAP!!
Absolutely love it – more please. You write so well – wow you can even spell and know something aboutr grammar (LOL). Seriously, this is wonderful. I have never liked Alice, but always loved Helena – pretty weird huh. But this Helena/Alice thing, has made me start to look at Alice differently – I think Helena is more her than Dana is – can extend her more as a person.
WOW!!! Everything you write is amazing. I agree whole-heartedly with SusanH in regards to spelling and grammar. Your work IS AMAZING!!! I’ll read practically anything you post. Keep up the excellent work!!
horray for helacious!!! this is the begginning of great story drieser. while i am a big danish fan, it is refreshing to take a step away from it and indulge in this plot. i for one, would love to see some helacious in season 3… and until then, i will relish in your writing. i feel that helena is a very misunderstood character because of the whole betta and tina debacle… most bette and tina fans that i have encountered just hate her… but i find that its always the character that is introduced in a negative light whose history and development i enjoy most. so i guess i just want to say, good on you for starting this wonderful story, and i think that you write helena bueatifully… oh and i love what she brings out in alice. ok i am done now, lol. 10 stars babe!
oh my goodness dreiser – im not sure if i hate you or love you for making me love helacious this much! amazing – helena realizing that she was allowing alice to lead and had no problems giving control to this virtual stranger – phenominal. Alice in this – wonderfully sad – but sweet and kind – its not easy to be bitter, yet not negative! you walk the line well! loved it! im going closer and closer to the dark side!
It’s a Sulky and Dreiser conspiracy; and it’s too powerful to resist! I’m officially loving Helacious. I always love your writing, and this is no exception.
I really liked this one.. maybe Helacious isn’t that bad pairing after all. At least I like Helacious in fanfics, TLW is another thing. And this certainly makes it easier to accept what is coming in season 3.
i didn’t think that i could like helena…but after reading these stories i can see her point of view…glad to see that she isn’t the bitch we thought she was…as for Dana it sucks but Alice can do better…besides think of the sex scenes these two experienced lovers can come up with…looking forward to your next post.
Fuck! I put off reading this for almost a week because in my heart of hearts I’m a danish shipper. Which of course means, I don’t really want either of them with anyone else. But you are also one of my favorite writers on these boards and I knew, I just knew that I was going to love this story–And damn it I do.
Despite my love for the danish, I love this story. I love Alice/Helena and I can almost see how they are a better match for each other–almost. Anyway, great job. Loved the Mommie Dearest reference–My mom and I used to watch that together all the time and then my mom would always do the “no more wire hangers” scene imatation–so I got a good laugh out of that. I loved, loved the ending–it was sweet.
I will continue reading this story, it is to good not to.
