Bitter Endings, Sweet Beginnings: Part One

“I’m aware,” replied Alice who gave an exaggerated pose of utter cool kid disdain. “I just like saying your last name.” Her eyes peeked over at Helena who was still smiling happily at her and that’s why she smirked inwardly then drawled casually, “It reminds me of a spy name. You know, Agent Peabody of her Majesty’s Secret Service with her license to thrill.”

Bursting into delighted laughter, Helena’s head fell forward to duck down and hide into her arms but when she looked up at Alice her blue eyes sparkled happily. “I quite like that,” she remarked. “I think I shall have to tell my children their Mummy is a spy now. Though I wager they would have trouble believing it.”

“Too skinny for a spy?” asked Alice dryly, lifting an eyebrow.

“Too dreadfully boring,” responded Helena just as dryly.

“You?” Alice scoffed. Waving her hand in a dismissive movement and releasing a noise to match, she moved closer to put them once again eye to eye. Then she grinned impishly and said, “You’re the least dreadful or boring spy I know, Ms. Peabody.”

“You know a lot of spies then?” questioned Helena. Her lips quirked up in a teasing grin and she said, “Should I be feeling put out with jealousy? Because I am feeling such an impulse.”

“Hey,” said Alice, flinging her hands up in an over the top gesture of defense. “Don’t ask me about when a girl should be feeling jealous.” A few moments passed then her smile faded and she said in low tones to herself, “I feel that way all the time these days.”

Studying Alice for a long moment, Helena looked away from the blonde, unable to say what she wanted and face her. “When my marriage to Winnie ended I found myself endlessly jealous. Particularly when our children would speak of these women she was busy gadding about with,” offered Helena calm and quiet. “So much so that I fancied at one point I might actually find myself turning green at the edges.”

There was silence then Alice sighed slightly. When she did, Helena moved her gaze to lock their eyes and the moment she did, the writer smiled softly at her. “Your ex sucks,” stated Alice, plain and simple, her face as earnest and heartfelt as her words.

    1. Yes! You finally posted this story. I’ve been looking forward to this for so long! Hooray! I’ve already told you what were my favourite parts, so I’ll skip that for now, except to say that Helacious is the bestest ship of all and that all your interactions between Helena and Alice are so natural.

    2. leonore is right it’s a conspiracy of the best writers I’ve read in the fancfiction world. And yes, I’m loving helacious, despite the fact first at all I’m a danish fan. I’m really enjoying this. Thanks.

    3. Excellent! Between your fics and Sulky’s fic, I’m glued to my laptop. I love how you portray Alice and Helena and even though I’m a Danish fan, I really love the Helacious too. You and Sulky write so well that you can’t help but love it. Great job.

    4. I just knew that somewhere deep inside Helena, there is a lonely, love starved person, just waiting for the right person to find the goodness in her. I am so glad that Alice happens to be the one. I would love for Alice to be for Helena, what Tina is for Bette. Very good job. Post again soon. I can’t wait for them to get into the heat of passion.

    5. This story is amazing, I’ve really come to love the Helena/Alice fics, however few there may be. I especially love the fundraiser and Alice’s efforts to make it less painful. Please post more ASAP!!

    6. Absolutely love it – more please. You write so well – wow you can even spell and know something aboutr grammar (LOL). Seriously, this is wonderful. I have never liked Alice, but always loved Helena – pretty weird huh. But this Helena/Alice thing, has made me start to look at Alice differently – I think Helena is more her than Dana is – can extend her more as a person.

    7. WOW!!! Everything you write is amazing. I agree whole-heartedly with SusanH in regards to spelling and grammar. Your work IS AMAZING!!! I’ll read practically anything you post. Keep up the excellent work!!

    8. horray for helacious!!! this is the begginning of great story drieser. while i am a big danish fan, it is refreshing to take a step away from it and indulge in this plot. i for one, would love to see some helacious in season 3… and until then, i will relish in your writing. i feel that helena is a very misunderstood character because of the whole betta and tina debacle… most bette and tina fans that i have encountered just hate her… but i find that its always the character that is introduced in a negative light whose history and development i enjoy most. so i guess i just want to say, good on you for starting this wonderful story, and i think that you write helena bueatifully… oh and i love what she brings out in alice. ok i am done now, lol. 10 stars babe!

    9. oh my goodness dreiser – im not sure if i hate you or love you for making me love helacious this much! amazing – helena realizing that she was allowing alice to lead and had no problems giving control to this virtual stranger – phenominal. Alice in this – wonderfully sad – but sweet and kind – its not easy to be bitter, yet not negative! you walk the line well! loved it! im going closer and closer to the dark side!

    10. It’s a Sulky and Dreiser conspiracy; and it’s too powerful to resist! I’m officially loving Helacious. I always love your writing, and this is no exception.

    11. I really liked this one.. maybe Helacious isn’t that bad pairing after all. At least I like Helacious in fanfics, TLW is another thing. And this certainly makes it easier to accept what is coming in season 3.

    12. i didn’t think that i could like helena…but after reading these stories i can see her point of view…glad to see that she isn’t the bitch we thought she was…as for Dana it sucks but Alice can do better…besides think of the sex scenes these two experienced lovers can come up with…looking forward to your next post.

    13. Fuck! I put off reading this for almost a week because in my heart of hearts I’m a danish shipper. Which of course means, I don’t really want either of them with anyone else. But you are also one of my favorite writers on these boards and I knew, I just knew that I was going to love this story–And damn it I do.

Despite my love for the danish, I love this story. I love Alice/Helena and I can almost see how they are a better match for each other–almost. Anyway, great job. Loved the Mommie Dearest reference–My mom and I used to watch that together all the time and then my mom would always do the “no more wire hangers” scene imatation–so I got a good laugh out of that. I loved, loved the ending–it was sweet.

I will continue reading this story, it is to good not to.
