Can we get it back – Chapter 29
“Can I get you something to drink Shane? Coffee?” Tina asks she stops beside her.
“A coffee would be great. Thanks.” She replies. “Is she okay?” She asks.
“She’s sad, which is understandable. Her hair is her signature as she calls it. It’s one of her dominant features, so it’s understandable that loosing that is like loosing part of your identity. And she’s scared that will change her, I guess. She did not come out and say that, but I know her. This is a big thing. But I love her. I’ll help her through it.” Tina says as she pour Shane her coffee.
“I will grow back. I have had a lot of cancer patients coming to me for cutting off their hair when it’s already falling off and they have come to me after, when the hair is growing back and they have enough to actually have an hairdo again, not just spikes, bit an actual hairdo you could style. And many of these people, their hair has grown back fuller, thicker.” Shane reveals to Tina.
“Really?” Bette asks, surprising both Tina and Shane by suddenly appearing next to them.
“Hi, Bette. Yeah it does. A lot of the people get their hair back in better condition than before.” Shane says with a little smile of reassuring Bette.
“Well, I hope that applies to me also. All though I don’t know how my hair will behave if it gets thicker than it already is.” Bette says with a small chuckle.
“Well, I for one, love your hair in all shapes and sizes and thicknesses and so on. If it get thicker, then great, if it gets thinner, that’s great too. As long as you have some hair I could run my fingers through, then I’m all good.” Tina says and smiles at Bette and leans in for a kiss. “You ready babe?” She asks.
“Yeah, as ready as I can be, I guess. Let’s do this.” Bette replies and looks at Shane with a nervous smile.
“Take a seat your highness…” Shane says, giving Bette a wink. Bette smiles back.
Tina grabs a chair and place it in front of Bette. Bette takes a seat and immediately Tina takes both of Bette’s hands in hers to comfort her. Smiling lovingly.
Shane starts. As she does the first cut, Bette closes her eyes and tears starts to roll down her face. Silent tears streaming down. Tina can see the emotions through Bette’s closed eyelids. Tina brings Bette’s hands up to her mouth and softly places small kisses on them. Her heart is breaking, wishing she could take all the pain away from Bette, take away all she has been through these last few months.
15 mintues later, Shane is finished. Bette had told her to take it all away when she had called her earlier. She did not want to answer questions about how she would have it and so on. So, she had told her to just take it all away. And that is what Shane had sone.
“There, I’m done.” Shane said.
Bette was afraid of opening her eyes. Tina squeezed her hands a little, encouraging Bette to open her eyes. As Bette slowly did, she found Tina’s eyes right away. Tina’s eyes which was teary, but still radiates love with the most loving smile Bette had ever seen.
“You look beautiful babe. Absolutely beautiful.” Tina whispers as she leans over and wipes Bette’s tears away with her thumb. She stands up and takes Bette’s face in hers and leans down and places a soft kiss on the top of Bette’s now bald head. Then she slides down towards her ear and whispers.
“I love you, and you look beautiful.”

Well, its done. Bette now has no hair. I think she is going to be surprised at how quickly it comes back. She’s been wearing a cap. She can continue to do that. There will be a few advantages… less time to take a shower…less time on preparing to go out….saves money on hair products for a while. I know that going through this is painful… but this is not permanent….Tina loves her, Angie loves her. and she is not alone….
Thanks for the chapter.
Poor Bette and i loved Tina’s reaction and how she told Shane about Bette’s feeling losing her hair: “Her hair is her signature as she calls it. It’s one of her dominant features, so it’s understandable that loosing that is like loosing part of your identity. And she’s scared that will change her, I guess. She did not come out and say that, but I know her. This is a big thing. But I love her. I’ll help her through it.”
Tina is a real support for Bette and shows her commitment through words and actions.
Thank you for another chapter! Stay save and healthy!
This is very heartbreaking. And for anyone who has been through this themselves or with a loved one – realistic. Bette Porter is a stunningly beautiful woman. Her hair is a big part of who she is. That’s simply the reality. And that is okay. The next several months will not be easy for Bette. And there will be more tests. And a rightful fear of reoccurrence. Bette is naturally prone to introspective and is going to need a lot of ego boosting and emotional support. Tina needs to be present for Bette as much as humanly possible. Both Tina and Angie need to do some extra special things to help Bette. Also – to my mind Bette is alone too much. Tina needs to make certain she demonstrates the everlasting love she professes every hour of every day. Bette needs her. Be creative. She has already stepped up to the plate with Bette but this is a crucial time. Do not let Bette shut down. Maybe get her out of the house a bit? I still say make a wig from her hair. Shane can get it done. That really is very helpful. Thanks for posting.
Nicely written Chapter.
Tina’s support is good and she can do a lot to help Bette cope. Good that Shane has some experience dealing with this and she is right that when hair grows back it is often better than before, different but better.
Thanks for posting look forward to more, please.
Stay safe and well.
