Can we get it back? – Chapter 31
“Have you planned dinner yet?” Angie asks.
“No, we haven’t. I do not feel like making any today. Maybe we could order in?” Tina suggests.
“Sure.” Angie agrees.
“Why don’t you order something for us. You know what I like in the places with usually order from. And for mama B I think only a salad.” Tina says.
“Okay cool. I’ll order something good. And a salad for mama B.” Angie says with a smile.
“Great. We’ll be out soon, so you can order right away if you want to.” Tina says and walks back to the bedroom. “Babe, you okay in there?” Tina asks Bette as she starts cleaning the floor.
“Yeah, I’m better. My stomach has settled down. I’ll be right out.” Bette replies. When she walks out a few minutes later, Tina has just finished cleaning the floor.
“All clean.” She says, smiling up at Bette. “Oh babe, you should change your top. You’ve got some vomit on your top.” Tina says and points to a spot, on Bette’s top.
“Oh, I didn’t see that. I’ll change right away.” She replies and takes off her top and find another one. The dirty one she puts in the laundry basket.
Together they walk out and into the living room, where they find Angie looking through the take-away menus. She looks up when she hears them enter the room.
“Hi mama B.” She says and quickly stands up and walks over to her and give her a big hug.
“Hi, sweetie.” Bette whispers back.
“Let me see the new do.” Angie says with a curious smile.
Bette slowly takes off her beanie.
“Cool.” Angie says and give her mama B another hug.
“Thank you, sweetie.” Bette whispers back.
Tina stands to the side and smiles proudly at Angie for the way she didn’t make a big deal of it.
“So, did you order?” Tina asks.
“Yeah, I did. I chose the Greek this time. I wanted Gyros, so I also ordered that for you and a Greek salad for you mama B with chicken on the side.” Angie replies.
“Great. When will they be here?” Tina asks.
“They said to give them about 45 minutes and it’s about 10-15 minutes since I placed the order.” Angie replies.
“Okay, good. We have about 30 then. Shall we eat in the living room in front of the TV or dining room?” Tina asks.
“How about the dining room. Been a while since we’ve used that space.” Bette suggests.
“Okay, dining room it is. Why don’t you sit down and relax while me and Angie set the table.” Tina says as she takes Bette’s hand and guides her towards the sofa.
“Okay.” Bette agrees and takes a seat on the sofa.
Tina and Angie disappeared into the kitchen to get the plates and cutlery.
“Thank you, sweetie for not making a big deal of the new hairdo.” Tina says as she quickly squeezes Angie’s hand softly. “She is really struggling with it. So, act normal. Also tell Jordi, to just act normal when she sees her, okay?” Tina says.
“Off course.” Angie replies.
30 minutes later they were seated around the dining room table eating a nice family meal, even if it was ordered and not homemade.
“This was better than I remembered.” Angie says.
“Yeah I agree. Good choice sweetie.” Tina agrees. “How is the salad babe?” Tina asks looking over at Bette.
“It’s good. It was the right choice to not order anything heavy for me. The chicken on the side was good though.” Bette replies and smiles over at Angie.

This is a rough time when you feel so helpless and sick. Angie was perfect in her response. And at least Bette is trying to eat something. Hopefully the nausea won’t last long. Take one day at a time and get the rest and nutrition she needs. Angie and Tina should plan some at home activities like watching a movie. Give Bette the time and attention she needs to relax and know they are both present. Keep telling Bette how beautiful she is inside and out. Plan a trip for them to take six months from now when Bette has regained most of energy and strength. It will take many months to recuperate fully. Bette needs to take the time she needs to get through this. But she needs Tina and Angie for that to happen….
Thanks for the update….
Well said Martha, i fully agree with you!
Agree completely
Ditto. A trip is a really nice idea. Something to look forward to.
Hey Lauren,
Great chapter – Bette is struggling but her two biggest supporters are there by her side.
Agree with Martha about the 6 month point trip – something to plan & look forward to.
As a cancer survivor myself, I endured chemo for 6 months & radiation treatments everyday for 6 weeks. They weren’t easy & gave me mild reactions, but fortunately I didn’t loose my hair on my head, just my arms and legs. Weird – but that’s how it went. Constant nausea and weight loss were other factors, but I counted myself lucky as I saw so many other patients that were sicker than I was. Today, 19 years later, I still survive and I am thankful everyday for that blessing.
The treatment can be just as painful and debilitating as the disease itself. Having a string support system is key to surviving the side effects & health issues. Keeping your strength up is another key factor.
Thank you for this chapter & story. Appreciate the care you are giving it.

Yeah, hard time for Bette. We’ll see how last week her treatment will go.
Thanks for posting look forward to more
