    Chapter 10

“This is so not a feminist thing to say but there are a group of women that have you meat-tagged like nobody’s business.”

    “Meat-tagged? Asked Bette perplexed.

“Meat-tagged” Leigh laughed at her friend. “That means that they’ve marked you as a ‘hot item’.

“Girls are lining up around the block to get on your dance card.” Alyson continued.

“Great my neighbors will love that.” Bette said humorlessly.

Bette was a bit embarrassed by the attention. She was exceptionally beautiful in her youth but as she matured many would describe the mocha beauty as exotic, elegant and stunning. Her outward appearance was made even more attractive by her inner beauty. She was generous, compassionate, altruistic, considerate and kind-hearted. She loved people and for the most part tried not to be judgmental or belittling. Of course with all these wonderful attributes she didn’t have any trouble attracting women who wanted to be with her. Shane had insisted that Bette rejoin the singles scene so she dated casually but did not have any interest in a new relationship. She didn’t think it would be fair to get involved in a rebound relationship so soon after her break-up with Tina but she wasn’t going to sit home pining away.

Bette took it all in stride as several women of all shapes and sizes stopped by to drop business cards, and napkins with names and phone numbers written on them. Bette was propositioned every which way, and everyone at the table had a good laugh at her expense.

“You’ve been meat-tagged.” Valerie continued the banter.

“Well that would seem to be my new identity.” Bette said dryly as another stranger walked up to the table.

“My girlfriend over there (pointing to her friend) wants to know if you’re ready to start dating. She wants to be your rebound girlfriend.”

“Hey that’s not a bad offer.” Dana joined in.

“Hey find out if the offer has an expiry date. Maybe we can work something out.” Alice quipped

“I’ll go ask her.” said the stranger.

“You’ve been pimped my friend.” Shane said with a smirk.

They all share a laugh as the woman walks away towards her friend. In the meantime Kit walks in and sees the string of women coming to the table. She’s curious about what is going on. She takes the seat next to Bette that Alyson had recently vacated. “What did all those women want?” Kit asked her sister but before she could answer they heard someone say “Filet Mignon” in a throaty sexy voice. Bette turned around to see who had spoken. She looked up from her seated position into the face of strikingly attractive brunette who seemed vaguely familiar but she couldn’t quite place her. Bette didn’t think she was just another one of the random admirers so she stood up to get a better look.

    1. Thanks so much for this chapter Bat; I see here that Bette is still like ‘I have nothing to do with Tina’s problems’. She is a little worry for knowing nothing from her ex, but that’s all. They were together for 7 years, and Bette doesn’t acknowledge any responsibility in their break out (personally I think Bette is in denial), as if everything was just Tina’s doing. I like the possibility of Bette dating a psychologist (she needs help in that department). It’s curious now that I see after ten chapters, on one side Tina feels very guilty, suffocated and alone and in the other side Bette feels the opposite than Tina, a victim, ready to let go and wrapped and protected by her friends. I don’t want to take sides with any of them but I feel a little unfairness in this relationship I don’t know if it is the cause or consequence of their dysfunction or if it is just part of it. Thank you again, I like so much you story, it makes me think on their situation; and I’m very captivated to know where you are taking us, I’m wanting eagerly for your next update.

    2. Hello there BAT,been a long time, glad to see you posting again.Synopsis of what i understand so far,TINA/BETTE are having problems and broke up(not good)TINA then decides not to go the toy route but the real mccoy(so not good)Then she decides to date HENRY(major turn-off)and engages in hide the banana(i’m feeling squeemish)with this guy but pines for BETTE(therapyanyone?)BETTE is still hoping and not hoping to reconsile with her wife(ahemm),so now we have total dysfunction. Can TINA get her self together or will BETTE continue towards moving on?Talking is a little late for BETTE if she wants TINA to listen to what she has to say even if TINA does talk the shame alone of what she has done will drive her further away i think, but your story and like everyone else i too will wait. BE SAFE and hurry back.THANKS,
