Bette and Tina share a subtle look, and Bette then glances down the table to where a member of the staff has started serving their meals. She turns back to Sarah and raises her eyebrows.

(Bette) It seems it’s time for the main course

Sarah nods and smiles.

(Sarah) Well enjoy your meal, it’s nice to see you Bette

They smile at each other as Sarah sits back down and is then immediately drawn into a conversation by Helena. Tina and Bette look to each other and Bette gives her a reassuring smile. Tina looks at her affectionately and places her hand on Bette’s lower back, moving her thumb gently and holding her gaze as they step away from each other.

Later in the evening, they have finished their meals and are all sitting back enjoying some wine. Bette has spent the night trying to focus on the conversations around her while her attention has remained almost wholly focused on Tina. She has watched her every move and taken in every look and every gesture between her and Sarah.

As Bette half-listens to Dana and Shane chatting about a recent night out she again looks over and sees Tina stand and make her way over to the bar. She smiles as she watches her have a friendly exchange with the bartender and then Bette goes to stand, wanting to try and catch a quiet moment alone with her. She stops as she sees Sarah approach her and slip her arm around Tina’s waist. Bette furrows her brow and takes a breath as she watches them.

(Dana) Are you OK?

Bette looks over at her and attempts a reassuring smile.

(Bette) Of course

Dana gives her a sympathetic look and then reaches towards her and places her hand on Bette’s forearm.

(Dana) I really appreciate you coming tonight, but you don’t need to stay if this is too difficult for you

Bette looks back to the bar and winces as she sees Sarah lean in and say something into Tina’s ear. She looks back to Dana.

(Bette) I think this may have just become too difficult for me

(Dana nods) OK. Just slip away if you like, we’ll say goodbyes for you

Bette places her hand over Dana’s.
