(Bette) Thanks Dane, I’m sorry about this

(Dana smiles) Bette, don’t worry about it

(Shane) Do you want me to come with you?

Bette looks over at her and frowns.

(Bette) No, stay, please. Enjoy yourselves, I’ll be fine

They both nod as Bette rises from the table and makes a quiet exit.

Later, Bette is in her kitchen making herself a cup of tea. The doorbell rings and Bette glances at the clock on the kitchen wall as she makes her way to the front door. She opens the door to find Tina looking anxiously back at her.

(Tina) Hi

Bette looks at her for a moment before responding.

(Bette) Hi

(Tina) I’m sorry, I know it’s late, I just wanted to check you were OK

Bette steps back and gestures for her to come inside. Tina steps into the house and Bette closes the door behind them and they stand together by the front door, both looking at the other intently. Bette takes a breath before speaking.

(Bette) Tee, your fiancée is in town for one night, and you haven’t seen each other in weeks

Tina takes a breath and looks back at her, and Bette frowns.

(Bette) So what are you doing here with me?

(Tina) As I said I wanted to check that you were OK

(Bette) You could have sent any of the others to do that

They hold each other’s gaze for a moment, and Tina then looks downwards and shrugs.

(Tina) Fine, I’ll go then

Tina turns back to the door and reaches for the handle, and Bette steps towards her and places her hand against the door, holding it closed. Bette stands close behind her and speaks to Tina over her shoulder.

(Bette) You don’t look at her the way you look at me

Tina looks downwards and takes a breath. They hold that position for a moment and Tina then turns to face her, standing with her back against the door as Bette’s hand remains in place against it.

(Tina) Bette, what we had ended a very long time ago

Bette looks to her with her head leaned to one side.

(Bette) You’re looking at me like that right now
