(Tina) Well they need to get used to it, so just keep doing what you’re doing. And I’m crazy about you, so there’s always that
There is a silent moment while Bette smiles, and Tina cringes.
(Tina) Sorry, I shouldn’t have said that
(Bette) Don’t say sorry, I like hearing it
(Tina smiles) I know you do, but that’s not the point
(Bette) You don’t want to hear about how crazy I am about you?
(Tina) I think we better say goodnight, before we get too carried away
(Bette smiles) OK
(Tina) Goodnight baby
(Bette) Goodnight Tee
Bette is due to return on a Friday afternoon, and they will both be attending the same event that evening. They plan to meet beforehand, both knowing how desperately they are wanting to see the other, and not wanting to subject themselves to politely associating with each other through the event without sharing a private moment first.
Tina’s office. Tina stands talking on her cell while distractedly searching through several files and periodically shifting her gaze to her computer screen and moving the mouse.
(Tina) Don’t ask me how but I’ve managed to shift all commitments from 4pm, so the absolute latest I’ll be home is 5
Bette walks down a hallway of her congressional office building and slips into her office, pausing to sign a document placed in front of her by a staffer when passing through the doorway.
(Bette) And my flight lands at 3.30, so with any luck I’ll beat you there.
(Tina) We’ll have to leave for the fundraiser by 7, so minus getting ready time…
(Bette) We’ll have an hour. Fuck I can’t wait to see you.
(Tina smiles) I know baby, me too. You have no idea how much I’ve missed you.
(Bette) I have some idea, believe me.
(Tina) Ok well if we’re going to make this work I need to get off the phone and do my day’s work in the next three hours.
(Bette) OK, I’ll see you at your place.
(Tina) Can’t wait baby, safe flight
Tina’s apartment, Tina unlocks the front door with her arms full and puts her handbag and laptop down by the door, while her cell rings. She glances around the empty apartment as she answers it.
