    Chapter 12

(Tina) I know what they will be, and I can’t answer them. I’m sorry

Bette looks at her for another moment.

    (Bette) Are you?

They continue to look at each other, and Tina takes a deep breath before speaking.

(Tina) I don’t expect you to believe me, but yes. I am very sorry that I’ve hurt you. And I’m very sorry that I can’t explain it to you

Tina puts her glass down on the desk and gathers the rest of her belongings. She reaches the doorway and looks back at Bette before leaving.

(Tina) Will I see you at the benefit tomorrow night?

    (Bette) Yes

    (Tina) OK

They share a look as Tina moves away.

The following evening, Bette enters the benefit and begins to move around the room, greeting various acquaintances as she does so.

As she moves from one group to another she scans the crowd and her eyes land on Tina, who is having a warm and friendly exchange with a small group of attendees on the other side of the room.

Bette continues to watch her and her eyes drop seemingly of their own volition, tracking down Tina’s chest, over her hips and down her legs. She brings her eyes up again and is surprised when they lock with Tina’s, who is looking back at her with a faint smile.

They hold each other’s gaze for a long moment, both feeling overcome with the intensity between them.

Tina is eventually pulled back into the conversation of the group she is standing with, and Bette recovers and takes a wine from the tray of a passing waiter before resuming around the room.

As the night progresses, Bette notices how Tina and Andrew work in tandem as they skillfully work the room. It is a well practised dance as they effortlessly move around the space, sometimes together and sometimes apart. She imagines this coordinated approach has taken years to master.

She catches a look that comes over Tina at different moments throughout the night however, whenever Tina is not actively engaged in an interaction with somebody. Bette can see a sadness come across her face and can see a distinct look of sorrow in her eyes. The look then quickly disappears any moment Tina is drawn back into her well practised routine.

    1. Thanks for the update!

I must admit i am very curious about Tina’s and Andrew’s relationship, i kinda get a vibe it’s a arranged relationship by their family and their relationship is platonic?

    2. It is obvious to me that Tina has it bad for Bette. She drops everything to go to Bette’s aid when she needs it. She purposely finds her way over to Bette at a party and now Andrew has noticed that something has not been right about Tina since she returned from her trip to Majorca. He will soon see that Tina’s eyes only brighten when she is around Bette. Tina has to decided what her life is going to be…. the life she mapped out prior to Majorca or the life she discovered while vacationing in Majorca….

      Very good story….
