    Chapter 15

Helena looks at her for a moment, and then sighs.

(Helena) So, what then? Back to casual sex and one night stands?

Tina frowns as she returns her attention to the stall tables.

    (Tina) I guess

Helena raises her eyebrows and nods, and Tina looks over at her.

(Tina) You know this Hel, you know that I’m not looking for what other people are looking for

    Helena looks up at her.

(Helena) I do. But I also know you’re not fulfilled by these arrangements

Helena shrugs as she moves around the stall.

(Helena) This situation with Bette seemed to be working for you. I have never actually seen you in a situation that works for you, and I loved it. Loved seeing you so relaxed and happy

Helena stops and looks at her.

(Helena) Clearly both in love with no talk of commitment. It seemed like the perfect scenario for you

(Tina sighs) It had an end date, why prolong it?

(Helena) Why did it have an end date?

    Tina sighs.

(Tina) I can’t give her what she wants. I know now exactly how it’s going to end, and the longer we continued the more painful it would be

(Helena) Have you ever asked her what she wants?

Tina looks at her and Helena raises her eyebrows.

(Helena) Might be an idea to?

    Tina frowns.

(Tina) I don’t need to. She’s obviously wanted more than I can give, right from the outset. She only knew how to contact me because she researched me. I’m honestly not even sure what that means

Helena replaces a mug she is holding on the table and responds casually.

(Helena) It means she ran into me at a gala and I told her your last name and where you work

Tina stops still and looks at her.

    (Tina) Helena

Helena glances over at her and shrugs, then continues walking towards the next stall. Tina stands still and watches for a moment as Helena moves away, before taking a few hurried steps to catch her.

(Tina) Why did you do that?

Helena turns to her and sighs.

(Helena) Because I am tired of this Tina. Tired of watching you settling for these unfulfilling arrangements because you’ve given up on finding what you’re looking for in another person. I told you when you first met her that Bette is an interesting one, and she is. I think there’s every chance that the two of you are perfect for one another, but you’ll never find out if you run now because of a problem you’ve pre-empted. Don’t assume what she wants from you. Ask her

    1. So Tina decided in college before age 21, that she never wanted a relationship that involved future and commitment. She decided that she was going just to flit from one partner to another for the rest of her life? What she saying is that she never wants to depend on someone else. She never wants to share her life with someone else. She never wants anyone with whom she can truly be connected to and they be connected to her. What she really does not want is to love someone? She is now in her mid to late thirties? So she has decided that what she really wants is a life of isolation and solitude? When the right person comes along, then all of that mantra will go out the window. If you are with the wrong person, then it does feel stifling and confining. But with the right person it feels like a warm blanket – comforting, inviting, welcoming….. So Tina, the decision now is in your court. Are you happy with your decision to break it off with Bette? Are you really? Well, if you are this will be your life forever. You can go home and sit on your patio and think about what might have been. Or you can roll the dice and see what happens. Oh yes, and there is always an end date to every relationship…. for the good ones its called death… One more thing. Choosing to leave Bette IS a decision to follow your own plan for the future whether you acknowledge that or not. You are simply choosing for Bette not to be a part of it. You are choosing a future of being alone…. You see, there are no decision you can ever make which is not about the future.

Thanks for the chapter. Helena, you are now my hero… I hope this new woman is the one for you…

    2. Really sad for Tina to make assumptions. She’s isolating herself from possibilities. I agree with everyone’s comments. This is an awesome story and I look forward to the next update.
