Chapter 19 – The Wilkins and the Prestons

Paris: Well, that’s all I’ve got.

    Bette:  Meeting adjourned.

Bette walked over and hugged James and wish him well. And then so did Paris. James was smiling but looked as if he were going to cry. The sisters patted him on his back and assured him that things were going be fine.

James rushed out and went and kissed his wife and asked if he could see her alone. He then took her by the hand and went to the cabana.

Tina: I believe we won’t be seeing those two until in the morning.

Jeanette: I believe you are right.

Bette and Paris walked out and sat down after pouring themselves a cup of coffee.

Tina: So, I take it that went well.

Bette:  I believe so. I think he needs to absorb what this means to him and to his family.

    Mary: So, what’s going on?

Paris:  Bette and I just promised to give James all the shares of Potter Gallery of Los Angeles as of December 31st. He will own it all; lock, stock and barrel.

    Mary:  What about the building?

Bette:  The building is an asset of the company. Whoever owns the company owns the building through the company. And that is a very valuable asset of the company. It could possibly be its most valuable asset long term.

Tina: So, if James chooses to, he could liquidate the business, sell all the inventory, sell the building and take the money and move on.

Bette:  Yes, if that is what he wants to do. Once he is in control, he is in control. Paris and I have no say in what happens then. James Preston is the sole owner and will make all the decisions.

Paris: Unless he has some other kind of employment opportunity which appears more attractive, I don’t think he will do that. After all he has young children and another on the way. I don’t think the proceeds of that building would enable him to raise his children and provide for himself and his wife into his retirement years. He’s got at least 20 more working years.

Mary:  But you are retiring my dear Paris and you and James are about the same age.

Paris:  Well, I believe that I have the resources necessary to have a family and provide for Jeanette for the rest of our lives even without working.
