Chapter 19 – The Wilkins and the Prestons

Mary: I’m tired as well. Margaret, why don’t I go with you. We can go through the study here. Not as far to walk to the elevator.  Let me say goodnight.

Mary and Margaret then went around hugging Bette, Tina, Jeanette and Paris. And then left.

Paris: Is it my imagination, or are they getting rather friendly with each other?

Bette: They seem to be getting along well. They are friends. But if there is anything more, I have no idea.

Jeanette: Well, it’s hard to tell with people that age. My experience has been that senior citizen either love you like you were a sweet puppy dog or they avoid you like the plague and with those people they always have this scowl on their face. Those two definitely have that sweet puppy dog look toward each other. And they are very attentive to one another.

Tina: Well, if there is more than friendship, I’m sure they will let us in on it at some point. In the meantime, let’s be good children and not mention a word about it. We would not want them to become self-conscious about their behavior. Just observe and let it go.

Bette: Yeah, or you can be like me and just be oblivious to it.

Tina: Oh, Bette, you’ve noticed that they are getting closer. And don’t say that you haven’t.

Bette: Yes, I must admit that I have notice. But then again, I was worried that they might not get along at all.  I never conceived that they might become best buds. I’m not sure how to respond that there might be more than that. I never considered that my mother might actually take a lover.

Paris: Oh, god Bette. Are you kidding me? Do you think that’s a possibility? What the hell?

Jeanette:  Calm down Paris. Your mother is a grown woman and can live the life she deems appropriate. Your mother deserves happiness just as you do. And if Margaret is the one? Well, if she chooses Margaret, that is who she chooses. And she needs no one’s permission or approval for her choice. Not unless someone is out to scam her or hurt her in some way.

Tina: That is not Margaret. Margaret is sweet and is honest as the day is long. I think they are cute together. And if the affection and attraction is mutual, who are we to get into their way.
