Chapter 19 – The Wilkins and the Prestons

Mary:  That doesn’t sound like Daniel. I don’t think I’ve seen him upset but maybe one time.

Bette: Well, that is what happens when puberty starts. Their emotions get stirred up and the don’t possess the controls to handle them. It is a learning process and so it begins.

Tina: Okay, since you are all here. I want to remind you that Bette and I will be leaving for New Haven on Thursday evening and hopefully we will return on Friday evening. We will have Angie and Suzanne with us. Now, Mary and Margaret, since we will be gone for only one night, would you two mind taking care of Daniel?

Mary:  Oh sure, that will be fine. Friday is a school day, isn’t it?

Bette:  Yes, it will be. But I think that we are going to call the Wilkins and cancel Daniel and John David’s weekends together for the next two weeks. Angie and Suzanne will be here for this weekend and the following weekend is Paris and Jeanette’s wedding. I think that there will be a lot going on and Daniel needs to be involved in family rather than John David. They can resume their weekends the weekend after school starts back up again.

Margaret: Well, that’s reasonable. Wow, I hadn’t realized the wedding was that close.

Mary: Yes, but we have our dresses and we are ready for the occasion.

Paris:  Oh, that’s good Mom. Do you want to tell me about it?

Mary:  No… I will let you see it at your wedding. I think it’s a nice reasonable dress to wear to your daughter’s wedding. Not too old and not too young looking either. I don’t think that it will embarrass you or anything.

Paris (laughed):  Mother, it’s not in your nature to try to embarrass me. I’m sure its lovely.

Mary:  Margaret’s dress is nice too. If another occasion calls for it, I’ll have to borrow it.

Margaret:  Oh, Mary, it wouldn’t fit you. You have those tiny hips.

Mary:  Have you looked at yourself in the mirror lately, you and I are now almost the same size.

Bette: Margaret, you have continued to slim down since you’ve been here. Is that something you need to have a doctor look at?
