Chapter 23 – The Wedding
While the dinner was being served Bette asked Paris where she was taking Jeanette for her honeymoon. Paris finally answered. They were spending two weeks in Tahiti in a private luxury bungalow on the water. Paris had arranged for meals and housekeeping and some entertainment as well as lots of private time. Bette then remembered her own honeymoon with Tina. They too went to Tahiti. But she did not know if they would stay at the same place or not. But Tina always remembered the three nights they spent at the Pierre Hotel as their true honeymoon since their trip to Tahiti was several months after their wedding.
Bette: When do you plan to tell Jeanette?
Paris: Once we get to our hotel tonight. Everything is set for us to fly out tomorrow afternoon. It’s going to be a long flight, but I think this is going to be worth it. Gosh Bette, I’m a married woman and I feel wonderful. Thank you for all your help today.
The food was very good. Everyone was given a choice between fish or beef with sides of potatoes or rice and apparatus and broccoli. There had been a nice salad starter and there was wine served with the meal. The dessert was coffee with a large Italian wedding cake. Jeanette decided she did not want the towering wedding cake so the settled for a large two-layer cake which was covered with a cream cheese icing and covered with hazelnuts. There was no cake ornament as they both found those to be somewhat tacky. And then the question was: what do you do with it after the wedding is over? So, they opted not to have one.
After the dinner, there had been a dance floor and some tables set up in the gallery. Paris had hired a disk jockey to play some dance music and put in some special lighting to simulate a disco. Paris and Jeanette had the first dance. Then Paris danced with her mother while Jeanette danced with Sonny. Then Paris danced with Sonny and while Jeanette danced with Mary and then they went about dancing with others in the crowd. Bette asked Tina to dance with her as the music was a nice slow ballad. Most of the crowd found a themselves on the dance floor and enjoying the evening. Daniel asked Angie to dance with him and then danced with Suzanne. He was very respectful and careful not to step on their shoes. Shay asked Angie for a dance and Jordan danced with Suzanne as their dates had gone off to the lady’s room. Mary danced with Margaret and seemed to be having a wonderful time. Alice and Lynn danced closely together as if they too were newlyweds. Shane and Bobbie seem to be carrying on a conversation and more noticing the crowd than in a romantic mode. Helena and Dylan were dancing comfortably with each other enjoying the ambiance of the crowd and the music. The crowd seemed happy and content with who they were with and what they were doing.
