Chapter 23 – The Wedding
The crowd raised their glasses and drank to Jeanette and Paris and repeating Jeanette and Paris.
Bette: My father was right… It does take a special someone to corral and domesticate a Porter. And my dear sister Paris, you have found that someone. Do not let her ever get away. Jeanette never let Paris get away from you either. Your happiness depends on it. My dear sister, I am so proud of you and what you have accomplished. I am so proud that you are a sibling to me and to Kit. It is my fondest hope that you and Jeanette will leave here tonight with a new found bond which gives you confidence and security which did not exist this morning. Please remember that we your family and friends are here to assist you with whatever we can to have a good and productive life. All you need to do is ask. We may not be able to give you exactly what you want but we will do what we can to help you in your time of need. You and Jeanette are wonderful together. You two make a great team to accomplish whatever it is you want to accomplish. And if I could give you advice, it would be this: talk to your spouse, listen to your spouse and really hear what she is saying, never hold anything back from your spouse. And the biggest problem in any relationship is the failure to communicate everything – not just your joys, but your fears, your demons, your hopes, your desires, and your goals. The more you know what is on your spouse’s mind and the more she knows what’s on your mind, the more likely you can face and resolve any problem which comes your way. You are now two individuals who have chosen to join your lives to travel this path we call life, together. There are going to be good times and there are going to be bad times. But if you face them together, you’ll be happier, more secure and more satisfied with your journey. My sincerest best wishes for both of you. May your love lead to a bountiful life. To: Paris and Jeanette.
Crowd: To Paris and Jeanette
The servers then came in and started serving the food immediately. Jeanette and Paris turned to Tina and Bette and thanked them for their words. They felt a closer to their in-laws as a result. And they knew they could rely on Bette and Tina for whatever they needed.
