Chapter 26
Like Leo Donna also talked about some of the struggles the Hammer faced but was optimistic about the future and very encouraged by the partnership between the CAC and the Hammer. She talked about some planned renovations to modernize their facility to be in line with the recent renovations and enhancements undertaken by the CAC. Instead of rivaling for exhibits and audiences she talked about the CAC and Hammer’s plans to complement each other by focusing on decidedly different art produced in all medium. Donna left the stage followed by an enthusiastic round of applause.
Finally Peggy, Martha and Bette take turns at the microphone for closing remarks. This time Bette is given a standing ovation in recognition and accolades for her work with the CAC as well as her future position as the head of the Peabody Corporation succeeding Peggy Peabody.
Tina said goodnight to Oscar and everyone else from the WeHo Family and Youth Center sitting at her table then made her way over to Bette. She expected that Bette had made arrangements for a ride home but didn’t know the particulars. When she arrived at Bette’s table she was warmly greeted by Peggy and Emma neither of whom she’d had a chance to talk to earlier. She was introduced to Allyn, Martha, Leo, Donna, Rebecca, Frank and finally Alyson Cabot.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you Tina. Congratulations on your grant recognition. Very impressive.”
“Thank you Alyson. It’s a pleasure to meet you as well. I’m looking forward to the retrospective. Bette has always been a great admirer of your mother’s work. I’m anxious to see it for myself. I bet you’re excited to get started?”
“I am. This is like a dream come true for me. I’ve been after my mother for years to allow me to show her work. Now I’m glad we waited because we couldn’t have asked for a better time or a better venue than the CAC. I’m very happy for Bette heading the Peabody Corporation but the CAC will be at a loss without her at the helm.”
“I’m sure they’ll survive without me.” Both women were surprised to hear Bette’s voice behind them.
“Sorry to interrupt your conversation but our limo is waiting. Are you two ready?”

Enjoyed it, thanks
I continue to enjoy your excellent writing and storytelling, thank you.
Goodness, helena is evil personified. Happy that Peggy and Martha found out about their nefarious plans and put a stop to it. They shoild all be banished to some distant planet and left there and let them anihilate each other or just let them die on their on their own, neither of them would be smart enough to survive. People like them don’t deserve to live among polite society because they would never understand that their deviousness, abject meaness, low thinking was not the right thing to do to get what they want without hurting someone else. Happy that Bette and Peggy will be running things in the future and that Winnies’children will not have permanent emotional scars from helenas’ nonsense. More than happy that Tina is not harmed by these women as well, hope she can find another love and happiness in her future with a woman hopefully. Great update. Thanks for posting.
