    Summary:
    The discussion continues.

    But, had she really?

    Would she act in the same manner again today if given the chance?

    “I . . . I don’t know what you expect me to do.” Bette tried to stay remote by avoiding directly answering Tina’s question. She was being defensive because she knew Tina still had the power to affect her like no one else ever could. Not even her children.

    Because Tina still held her heart.

    “I expect you to help a friend who obviously needs whatever help she can garner.” Tina’s voice was laced with disdain for Bette’s current attitude.

    “I didn’t know we were . . . friends.” Bette stared at the blonde, uncertainty in her dark, troubled eyes.

    “Oh, I’ve always been your friend Bette.” Tina’s voice was clipped back as she waged an internal war with herself. She felt the color rise in her neck, chest and cheeks. Her eyes were a stormy green. Damn Bette and her infuriating manner. “Even when you haven’t been mine.”

    “Listen, don’t assume anything.” Bette spat back; her eyes narrowing as she spoke. She was agitated now, both at Tina and herself. “You actually don’t know anything about me anymore. Nothing.”

    “Well, I wouldn’t assume anything about me either, doctor.” Tina challenged the brunette right back, raising her brow in defiance. “But, I can tell you that the woman I once knew would be willing to help. No questions asked.”

    “Don’t be naïve, Tina.” Bette said darkly. She suddenly stood again and maintained her balance this time. Her face was remote as she quickly poured more water into her glass. She took a long drink and a few moments to respond. She steeled herself against any reminders of how she had been at that earlier stage of her life. “At this point in time, our lives are very complex and demanding.”

    “Your point, dear doctor?”

    “Look, I’m willing to help Ashley with medical treatments through my company.” Bette promised. “I do so as a doctor. But that woman you referred to earlier . . . that Bette Porter.  Well . . . she didn’t survive. She’s long gone.”

    An immediate, sharp silence filled the room, descending like a thick cloak on the two women.

    It was soon followed by a wave of utter sadness as it blanketed the former couple.

      I’ve loved this story since the first chapter, but this chapter is everything! I love how you built up to the ending of the chapter, them wrestling with their feelings, so well-written. And Tina knows the old Bette is still there.

      Have to say, too, you nailed it in the section where Tina’s emotions over Ashley can’t be contained any longer. Made me tear up.

      Thanks for the update, and I cannot wait for the next one!

        Both Tina & Bette are exploring these long suppressed feelings for one another & its turning their worlds upside down once again, especially Bette.

        You’ll get to explore those along with them as we continue onward.

      So happy to see a new chapter.

      Sorry to hear about your family but glad it’s going better.

      Be careful with the hurricane season and take care of yourselves.

      You can feel the emotions and struggles both Tina and Bette experience, so good written
      I hope that this will be a small step in the right direction for both of them, hopefully Bette will not close down and bury her feelings for Tina again and that Tina will be gently and patient with Bette to let her open up and let her see they could be a couple again. Because they just belong together!!!

      Looking forward to the next chapter.

        Thanks for the words about the family – both of y brothers are ding better & the eldest just celebrated his 83rd BD yesterday!! YAY!!

        Back to Tibette & DOH – Bette’s reactions seem to be the biggest question. But I think TK will guide her along with gentleness & care. Totally agree – they DO belong together.

      • Yes, I’m very happy that the health situations with my brothers have improved! Yes, the time with my family was sweet – especially with the youngest nephews & nieces – they all so cute at these ages!!

        Yes, lots of hope & hopefully Bette can get out of her own way & learn to express herself to Tina again.

      Bette is so stubborn sometimes…and Tina is so pushy but I guess we’ll forgive her given the circumstances. I bet the next scene will be Bette running like a rabbit out of the room hahaha !

      Wounder if U and family were taken care of by a “Dr Bette & her team”?? U seemed to be quite insightful in painting that exchange.

      And of course the “lovers world” of our two ladies 4ever remains. Will b interesting to WHEN they will be able to rediscover that part. . .but FIRST! Ashley needs tending to . .

        TBH, I’ve had more than my fair share of family illnesses down through the years. But somehow we managed to survive & deal with the treatments. So, those experiences provided background info for this novel.

        Yes, Ashley has to begin treatment & that will provide the stage for Tibette to interact more closely, leading to rediscovering each other.

      This was a terrific chapter and now I read that you’re posting an update this weekend. Can’t wait. I hope it’s just as good as this one was – I’m sure it will be!
