Chapter 35 – Labor Day and More

Bette and Tina decided to have some tea before they retired. Daniel was excited about his first day of school so he chose to go to his room. Bette hugged him and promised to be up on time and ready to take him to school. Tina then promised she would prepare his breakfast tomorrow. And thanked him for making her breakfast this morning.

Tina:  What a son we have. He is so amazing.

Bette: He is… did he pay his school lunch bill today?

Tina:  I don’t know. Maybe you can check his account and see if it has come out of his account.

Bette:  Good idea. Why don’t you call him and ask while I check? I want an answer before he goes to bed.

    Tina: Okay…

Tina:  He said he did that yesterday. He signed up for just lunches and an afternoon snack.

Bette:  We may want him to sign up for a breakfast or two in the future. If one of us is ever sick or something, it might be easier to just let him eat breakfast at school. It can be just a backup plan not something we do regularly.

Tina:  That might be a good idea. You know Mary will be here after Thanksgiving. She might want to go and have breakfast with him a couple of mornings. She will be using Angie’s car. Oh, that reminds me. How do you want to handle Angie’s car?

Bette: I’ll drive it every Thursday and you drive it every Tuesday. I think that will be enough to keep it in good working order.

Tina: Yeah, that will work. And then when Mary is here. We will then make a judgement on how often we need to drive the car.

Bette: Are you ready to head up stairs? I could use a little cuddling before we sleep.

Tina: Yeah, I kind of miss you today. I kept turning around to say something to you and then I would recall that you went to work today.

Bette:  That was a wonderful dinner. I really think Daniel loves being in the kitchen with us. He really is curious about cooking and what makes food taste good. But he is so curious about a lot of things.

Tina: His mind is like a sponge. He absorbs everything that goes on around him. I just felt so bad for him when we left New Haven. It has been a while since I have seen him so emotionally upset. Whatever you said to him when you took him on that walk helped him tremendously.

Bette: I told him that to be sad and to miss his sister was normal. And that there was nothing wrong with expressing emotions. Then I pointed out that Angie was exactly where she was supposed to be and that we can talk to her almost anytime we want to. And that her being in New Haven is really not much different from when she went to her school every day when he was at his school. She just wouldn’t be at dinner or breakfast. But she’d be home when she could. In the meantime, he was about to start a new school, make new friends and move into a new home and taking guitar and violin lessons and doing those things which he wanted to do. We would talk to Angie often and I knew she missed him as much as he missed her.

Tina: Oh, I got a text from Angie today.  Registration complete and fees paid. And she and Suzanne were off to check out the Greeks.

Bette:  Oh hell…. Now I will start to worry.

Tina:  Well, stop that. She’ll be fine. Come on, let’s go get ready for bed.

    Bette: I’m with you.

Tina and Bette turned out the lights and checked the doors. They then went through their bedtime routines and retired to their bed. They talked a little and then kissed and cuddled. Bette was tired. She had been up early and there had been no customary nap. So, falling asleep came easily.
