    Chapter 5

(Tina) Bette, you don’t even like that painting

    (Bette) Of course I do!

Tina scoffs and smiles. She turns back and considers the painting again.

(Tina) I don’t even like it

(Bette) You must like it, you bought it

(Tina) When I was what, 25? I obviously didn’t know what I was doing.

Bette smiles and they both look at the painting for a moment longer.

(Tina) Why have you kept it?

    Bette shrugs dismissively.

(Bette) I could never bring myself to throw it out, and I like looking at it so I kept it up. I didn’t really overanalyse it.

    Tina looks at her suspiciously.

(Tina) You really have been punishing yourself. And your partners. Staring at that God awful painting all these years.

    Bette laughs.

(Bette) Anyway, dinner’s not far away.

Bette goes to walk back towards the kitchen and Tina reaches out for her hand.

(Tina) I don’t mean to tease you.

Tina pulls her towards her and wraps her arms around her waist.

(Bette) You think it’s weird that I kept it?

(Tina smiles) Only because it’s so ugly, not because you’ve kept something of ours

(Bette) You don’t have anything of ours, as far as I could see

    (Tina) No.

Tina runs her fingers through Bette’s hair.

(Tina) We handled things differently, I guess. I got rid of everything we shared. Anything sentimental, but also the furniture we’d bought, our crockery, our iron.

    Bette laughs.

(Bette) I don’t even remember our iron

(Tina shrugs) It was just an iron. I basically replaced it with an identical iron.

(Bette) Ah, so you’re crazy too

    Tina laughs.

Bette looks up at the painting again while Tina keeps smiling at her.

(Bette) It actually is pretty bad

    Tina laughs.

(Tina) I think it’s time to get rid of it.

She looks back at Bette mischievously.

(Tina) You can look at me instead.

Bette smiles broadly and leans in to bring their lips together for a lingering kiss.

They eat their dinner together and then settle on the couch, chatting over a glass of wine. Tina sits with her legs tucked under her, facing Bette who is leaning back into the couch.

(Tina) So how were your constituents?

      Muahhaha tina is funny

    2. Love this story, it’s always great if there is some humor in it.

Still casually dating, wonder how long they can keep that up. It’s tricky with Bette in politics and Tina being a journalist. Tina was right to set some boundaries.

Love that Bette still had a ugly painting hanging that Tina gave her, just because it reminds her how happy she was then.

I do hope they will go for a real relationship and not this one without strings. They love each other and deserve more.
