Chapter 5
Bette shrugs.
(Bette) So it stays.
Tina sits watching her, lightly stroking Bette’s hair. Bette smiles at her with a furrowed brow.
(Bette) What?
(Tina) Nothing.
Tina smiles back at her.
(Tina) Let’s go to bed
A few days later, Bette is walking from her car towards a high school with a convoy of people following behind her. She holds up her index finger towards them and steps aside to answer her cell.
(Bette) Hey Tee
(Tina) Hey, sorry to call, I know you’ve got a lot on today.
(Bette) It’s fine, everything ok?
(Tina) Yes, but I’m glad I caught you. You would not believe the fucking day I’m having
(Bette) What’s going on?
(Tina) Half our reporting team are stuck in DC with the weather so I’m having to cover the rallies downtown, so I’m running around like a junior reporter for the day.
(Bette) What happened to enjoying staying involved on the ground?
(Tina) Don’t get smart Porter.
Bette smiles.
(Bette) I’m guessing dinner’s out then
(Tina) I’m sorry. I’m not going to get out of here until at least 9, maybe 10
(Bette) It’s fine, don’t worry about it. Look come over whenever you finish. You can eat leftovers and I’ll be up, I have an endless backlog of paperwork to get through before DC next week. I could use the extra few hours work anyway.
(Tina) Really?
(Bette) Yes, definitely. Just text me when you’re on your way.
Later, Tina arrives at Bette’s apartment. They kiss hello at the front door before Tina pulls away apologetically, holding up a hand affectionately to Bette’s cheek.
(Tina) I’m sorry I need to get these shoes off and sit down. I don’t understand how I used to do this.
Tina starts taking off her heels and Bette walks towards the kitchen, speaking over her shoulder.
(Bette) Take them off and head to the couch, I’ve got a pot of tea steeping, I’ll get you a cup.
Tina continues speaking to her from the other room.
(Tina) Oh my poor feet. I don’t know if it’s being older, or no longer being used to this style of work, or just these fucking shoes. All three probably.
Bette arrives in the lounge and hands her a cup of tea, motioning towards the couch.

(Bette) I don’t even remember our iron
(Tina shrugs) It was just an iron. I basically replaced it with an identical iron.
(Bette) Ah, so you’re crazy too
Muahhaha tina is funny
Love this story, it’s always great if there is some humor in it.
Still casually dating, wonder how long they can keep that up. It’s tricky with Bette in politics and Tina being a journalist. Tina was right to set some boundaries.
Love that Bette still had a ugly painting hanging that Tina gave her, just because it reminds her how happy she was then.
I do hope they will go for a real relationship and not this one without strings. They love each other and deserve more.
