Chapter 5 – A Day with No Plans

Bette:  I cannot imagine my life without Christina Mallory Kennard Porter.  And I cannot imagine my life without Angelica Kennard Porter nor Daniel Kennard Porter. I often wonder how I got to be so lucky to have such a wonderful family and such a magnificent life.

Angie:  Of all my friends, I have never seen parents who are as close as you two are.  I have never seen a couple who seem to be so in tuned with each other.  Last week, when all of our aunts were here with their spouses, I notice that everyone was very close to their respective spouses. But none showed the absolute happiness that you two seem to show. It really made me proud to be your child.  It’s something that I want for myself someday.

Tina:  Be patient.  Live your life. Follow your heart and you will find your soul mate. And you will know when you find them.

Bette:  Ladies, we have an early morning tomorrow.  We have a date with the California Department of Motor Vehicles at 8:00 am.  So, we need to be down here for breakfast at 6:30. It’s going to be another busy day.  So, I suggest we all go to bed.

Tina got up and went to hug Angie and then Bette hugged her.

Bette:  Goodnight, Boo.  You sleep well and we will continue this conversation when we can.

Tina:  I’m going to see Daniel and make sure he goes to bed.  Surely that movie is over by now.

Bette:  I’ll get the doors and the lights.

Tina went and found Daniel playing some video games.

Tina:   Daniel its bedtime honey.  How was the movie?

Daniel:  It was great.  Maybe we can all watch it on Sunday afternoon.

Tina:  We’ll see. If we are packed and ready to go and we have a couple of hours, then we will watch it with you.  We have an early morning.  Breakfast will be at 6:30. So, you need to go to bed young man.

Daniel:  Okay Mom…. Give me a hug?

Tina:  Absolutely.  Mama B. will be here in a moment and we will walk you upstairs.

Bette came in as Daniel was turning off all the equipment and lights

Bette:  Ready to go to bed Bud?  Sorry we missed the movie. We’ll see it soon with you.

Daniel:  It’s okay…. I’m a little tired anyway.  Early morning tomorrow?

Bette:  Afraid so.  And it’s not going to be very exciting for you either. But we will make up to you on Saturday.

Daniel:  Goodnight, Mama B… I’ll be down by 6:30 tomorrow morning.

Bette:  Goodnight Daniel.  Sleep well.  And we love you, Son.

Bette hugged Daniel and kissed his hair. She then smiled and joined Tina at the door and turned out the light and trailed behind Daniel up the stairs.

Bette and Tina entered the room and immediately went into their evening bedtime routine.

    Tina:  You okay, Hon?

Bette:  Oh yeah. I’m fine.  I just going over in my mind our conversation with Angie.  I can’t tell if we are getting through to her.  Are we telling her too much? Or not enough?

Tina:  It’s hard to tell.  I think we may be over doing it. We are pouring years of living and knowledge in a couple hour conversation. And we are not getting much response.  Maybe next time, we make her talk more and carry more of the conversation.  It’s a good thing that we have another few weeks to have these conversations.

Bette:  Do you think we are scaring her?

Tina:  I don’t think so.  I think we are being rather straight forward as we can be. It’s a matter of is it too much?

Bette:  Well, let’s get some sleep tonight and talk about it tomorrow after we absorb it.

Tina:  I agree.  Put some towel on the bed just in case we have another one of those hot flashes.  Thank you for getting the water up here.

Bette and Tina entered their bedroom and gave each other a hug and a kiss and held each other for a moment.  They then proceeded to do their night time routine and went to bed.  They were quiet with each other.  After a few moments they kissed each other and said good night, then drifted off to sleep.
