Chapter 57 – Lap Dance Sandwich

    “Yeah, we’re fine.”

They loosened their grip on one another and stepped back to face each other.

“I hate fighting with you.” Alice divulged. She scratched the top of her head which was a nervous habit she always had. “You were right…I’ve been unbelievably self-absorbed. I couldn’t sleep last night, and when you left early this morning…I knew I had really pissed you off.”

Shane listened to her friend with an unreadable expression but nodded slightly.

“I’m so exhausted from thinking about it all day and worrying that I totally fucked up. I should probably take a nap.”

“Is that why you’ve got such bad circles under yours eyes?” Shane asked with a small smirk.

“Pretty much.” Alice shrugged. “Do I look like hell?”

Shane chuckled. “I don’t think you want me to answer that,” she teased her apologetic friend. “Look, I’m sorry for getting on your case too. I shoulda told you about my little talk with Tina sooner.”

“You don’t owe me or anyone else an explanation for that. I know you want Bette to be happy.” Alice twisted in place with her hands behind her back like a small child in trouble. “And, for the record, I know you’re not in love with Bette.” She gave Shane a shy smile which was answered with a grunted throat laugh and another shake of her head.

“Come on, let’s set up at Bette’s for practice.” Shane said as she draped her arm around Alice’s shoulder and walked toward the backyard. Alice continued her reasoning as she accompanied the drummer.

“I mean, you’re Shane. You don’t fall in love with anybody. I was just being a brat.”

    “I know, Al. I know.”

    Tina’s House

Tina had just finished getting ready and was about to head out to the first show where she was supposed to meet the guys. Before she took one last look at herself in the full-length mirror, she heard the unmistakable audible notification alerting her to a text message.

She gathered her things and made her way out to the garage. Once she was settled in the driver seat, she checked her phone where a text had been waiting for her.

Hope your day was better than mine. Waiting 4 my consolation prize in the form of a call from this fine-lookin blonde who spent the nite. Hope she calls soon…

A small smile crept upon the A&R executive’s face and she sighed. She looked at her watch before backing out of her driveway.
