Chapter 6 – The Family – Day to Day
Bette and Tina got up at 6:00 am and quickly dressed for a swim. Margaret and Daniel were already up and getting ready. They had switched their swim times to the late afternoon just before dinner. Daniel found that after music lesson, it was soothing for his body. And after golf, it cooled him down and gave him a workout that the walking and carrying a bag simply could not. Tina and Bette usually put dinner on the table about 6:00 and no later than 6:30 pm.
Bette and Tina had worked up a routine that they planned the menus for the week and who ever got home first would be the main cook for the night and the other would assist. They used the time to check in and communicate how their day went and what they had accomplished in the way of the to do list which seemed to have a life of its own.
Bette’s day started with reviewing her lecture notes for the day, then her Monday morning class which was now an hour and a half. She then went to lunch and returned and did a few personal chores or returned phone calls. She then had a class at 1:30 which ran until 3:00. She then spent an hour on her graduate class notes or some more personal chores. She would then go home at 4:00 pm and arrive home at 4:30. She would change clothes and head for the kitchen to either begin dinner or assist Tina with dinner.
On this particular Monday, Bette called a real estate agency in New Haven and engaged them to find a house in New Haven. She asked for a small to mid-size residential home in a nice quiet neighborhood. She wanted a house which had minimum of two bedroom with two baths, or three bedrooms with three baths. She wanted a kitchen, laundry room, gas appliances preferable, a nice size living room or family room and preferably a two-car garage. Some yard but not a priority. She told the realtor that she did not want a “fixer-upper” but if it needed updating that would be fine. She closed by telling the realtor that the purchase would not be contingent on financing and the purchaser was a motivated to find something soon. The real-estate agent would be emailing an agreement and would start looking for possibilities immediately.
