Chapter 7 – Beach Party and Welcoming
Tina laughed: Forgot about Joyce Wischnia coming to the rescue. Maybe I won’t.
Bette laughed: Unfortunately, one action usually results in a domino effect. So. let’s just be the hostesses and maintain control of our emotions. Oh, I definitely do not want to work for Phyllis again no matter what. Once is enough.
Tina: I agree. Been there done that. Done and dusted.
Bette: Is there anyone else I need to be aware of that are coming?
Tina: Jodi was on the maybe list.
Bette: Noo! Really?
Tina: Considering that she did not think you and I would last; she might want to come to see for herself how things are going. In her life, you’re the one that got away.
Bette: Well, that woman humiliated me in front of all my friends, my co-workers, my students and the art community in general. As far as I’m concerned, she sealed our friendship to the trash heap with that “Core Values” art project. With friends like that, who needs enemies.
Tina: I wonder if the LA Public Arts Museum still has that piece?
Bette: I don’t know and I don’t care. The people in New York wanted me in spite of it. But if Phyllis is coming, I’m sure she will let me know all about that piece and Jodi and what has happened over the last ten years.
They had finished dressing, grabbed the dirty towels and went downstairs to start the day. Bette went to the laundry room and found the sheets from the media room and from Angie’s room and Kit and Sonny’s room and started those immediately. Tina found the keys to the house next door and handed them to Sonny and told them to proceed moving into the house next door. She then asked that Shay and Jordan move most of the soft drinks and a couple of cases of bottled water to the fridge next door. She gave Kit some coffee, green tea and cream and sugar to carry next door. The kids quickly got busy moving their things.
Tina went into the kitchen and started chopping bell peppers, onions and ham for the breakfast omelets. Bette started peeling potatoes as soon as she could. Dylan came in and started assisting Bette with the potatoes. Helena found a meat grinder and set it up to shred the potatoes. It would go a lot faster and was safer than the grater. After the 20 potatoes were grated, Tina added some onions to the potatoes and mix them. Sonny and Shane were working on preparing the grill for breakfast. It was 7:30 when Dylan brought out the huge bowl of potatoes. There was a chafing dish set up with a fuel can to keep the hash browns hot. Sonny decided to cook all of them at once and then cook the omelets second.
