“Max, this is Tina!” Bette hollered into Max’s ear over the music. “Tina, Max. We work together!” Max and Tina smiled and shook hands.
Bette laughed at James and Tori dancing with one another. James certainly did not possess any rhythm whatsoever, but was still shaking it on the floor like no other. The brunette pointed him out to Tina.
“That’s James. He’s an agent that we’re in talks with right now.”
Tina looked to where Bette was pointing. Her eyes widened in recognition. I’d know those sideburns anywhere, she thought to herself. “I think I know him!” Tina said loudly into Bette’s ear.
“Oh yeah?” Bette asked. At the same moment, the Stouts had ended their first song and the applause was thunderous throughout the tavern.
“Thanks ya’ll!” Kit said into the microphone. Both Bette and Tina clapped and cheered for the band.
James and Tori stepped off the dance floor and came back to where the women were standing with Max.
“James, this is my girlfriend – ”
“Tina?” James asked surprised.
“Okay, so how do you two know each other?” Bette asked.
“You still working for Jodi, James?”
It was now Bette’s eyes that widened.
“Nah, I quit shortly after that deal with Alphaville went down.” James averted his eyes from Tina’s.
“Wait, you used to work for Jodi Lerner?” Bette asked James.
“Yeah. Remember that bitch I was telling you about? She’s the one.”
“You could say that again.” Tina said out loud before she could stop herself.
Bette whipped her head around to her girlfriend whose hand went directly to her mouth. The ad executive couldn’t help but start laughing before pulling her girl into another hug.
“You guys will definitely have to tell me about that one.” Bette said, still chuckling at her girlfriend’s unfiltered statement. It was the first time she actually heard Tina say something about Jodi since they met.
Tori and Tina were introduced, and the band started playing their next tune. The couples danced and had a good time together. Bette and Tina would sneak kisses here and there, happy to be back in each other’s arms. Tina loved that Shane was back in her Aviators on the drums and Bette teased her girlfriend about the karaoke she belted out. Tina took the ribbing, making a mental note that the brunette would pay for it later.
The Stouts finished up their set and finally came out of the green room to meet up with Bette and everyone else. James introduced himself and hung out with the band the rest of the night. CDs were selling like hot cakes after their performance, and Kit and the other members were more than happy to scribble their autographs on the discs for their adoring fans.
Once Ozomatli took the stage, the entire crowd was on the dance floor. Bette and Tina swayed slowly together during each song, no matter how fast the tempo was. Before the last encore was played, Bette was ready to escape with her girlfriend in tow.
“Do you wanna get outta here?” She whispered, her sultry tone evident to the blonde.
Tina just looked at her with a cocked eyebrow and nodded ever so slightly.
