Chapter 8
“God what is it with you men? Can’t you just shut up and fuck me?”
“Tina will you listen to yourself. I care a lot about you. I value our friendship. I find you extremely attractive and believe me I want to fuck you, but this isn’t the way to find your answers. If you just wanted to have sex with a man you could have had a clandestine affair and Bette would never have known. From what you’ve told me you are embarking on a life altering decision and you’ve risked everything to do this. I don’t want you to wake up tomorrow and realize it was a mistake. I’d rather not sleep with you than lose you as my friend. Mikey is also very fond of you and would be devastated if we were to lose what we have over some impulse.”
“So what are you saying?”
“I’m saying I’d like to date you. I’d like to have a relationship with you. I’d like to see where it takes us.”
“Fine.”
“Fine? Just like that, you are agreeing to date me?”
“Yes. You are right I am looking for more than a quick fuck. I do have real feelings for you Henry. I love Mikey and I wouldn’t want to lose you as a friend either. So yes, I’d like to date you.”
“OK then. Why don’t we plan something for tomorrow?”
“Listen we’ve both had a lot to drink. Why don’t you just stay the night, unless you need to leave.”
“No. Mikey is spending the weekend with my sister and her kids. I’m all yours.”
***
Henry slept in one of the guest bedrooms. The following morning he got up early and prepared breakfast while Tina showered. Not surprisingly Tina awoke with a slight hangover. She’d been drinking more heavily lately and since her body wasn’t used to the alcohol it was affecting her more. Once she showered, took some aspirin and drank two bottles of water she felt much better. Tina came out of her bedroom dressed in her bathing suit and cover. Henry didn’t have a suit but there were plenty of vendors on the boardwalk for him to purchase everything he needed for the beach and a lazy weekend at Tina’s condo. Tina sat down while Henry served her coffee and a full American style breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, and orange juice.

Wow, thank you, two chapters in less than 24 hours; well Bat, Tina doesn’t get her answers, but at least she is comparing. I think that perhaps her problem is not about sex with men or women, but with Bette, and not exactly sex; she said doesn’t want to hurt her ex-partner but she really does it; Tina is caged in Bette’s circle; she needs her ‘own’ friends, out of it; no even other lesbians, (probably the lesbian world at WE-HO is small and interconnected). I believe Tina possibly feel her guilt, and suffocation, and probably alone, (I’m just thinking). I like a lot this chapter and at the same time it is very painful (believe me, I’m not masochist); but I am discovering and understanding more about the dysfunctional issue between them. Thanks and pps
proteonomics. I will be posting extra chapters this weekend, because I have the time and the chapters are ready, but also because I will be traveling for business four days next week and won’t have access to my computer to make any regular posts. You can read them all at once or save them to read next week.
Yes, Tina’s issue has little to do with sex as she is coming to realize, but I wanted to give her a compassionate man to do her exploration with rather than someone like Josh. That’s why I made Henry a friend and confidant in this story prior to them becoming sexually involved. She really is taking the wrong approach but I don’t think she knows what to do, and Bette basically kicking her out of the house and telling her to figure things out on her own didn’t help matters. .
Hey Bat, to have you post another chapter so soon is really great, even if I don’t like the context of this chapter, which I should assure you has nothing to do with your writing talent. Tina really seems more than confused to me and should consider talking to some professional. Whatever Tina is looking for I don’t think that she will be able to find those answers by trying to force a relationship with Henry – she doesn’t to me seems ready to date him – and he is setting himself up to some major heartache. Please don’t take my next comment the wrong way – but when Tina wanted him to have sex with her he declined and stated that he wanted to date her, but right at the next day they ended up having sex together?! As for their ‘family’ it’s going to be hard for them to not take sides, it sure is going to get awkward should Tina decide to join their family activities with her ‘boyfriend’ so soon after ending her marriage with Bette – so she either has to attend without Henry or she is going to stay away, either way this means she is going to distance herself from her longtime friends and that’s definitely not healthy. How come Tina didn’t have any friends of her own when meeting Bette? She had been in L.A. for some time working in the movie business, there must have been people she considered friends. Sorry but it’s something I always wondered about while watching the show. But enough – waiting patiently for your next post.
as1219 – I will be posting several chapters this weekend, to make up for not being able to post next week due to my travel schedule so you can read them all or save some for next week.
I agree it was unusual that Tina didn’t have friends of her own, which is part of the reason why I made Henry a friend before they became lovers. Secondly yes it did seem odd that he declined the sex the night before then slept with her the next evening but they did ‘technically go on a date’. However, that wasn’t the point. There were a couple of reasons why he held off. First he did not want to have sex with her while she was drunk. Secondly knowing her agenda he didn’t want to be used for sex just to satisfy her need to explore her ‘feelings for men.’. When he said he wanted to date her, it didn’t mean that he wasn’t going to have sex with her; it meant he wanted it to mean something and by asking her to date he could at least feel like she had feelings for him. I will address this night in a later chapter because I felt they did need to talk about it after they both had a chance to process it.
