Chapter 8
“How are you feeling?”
“A little hung over but not too bad; the aspirin and water really helped. I didn’t think I could eat but I’m famished. Thanks for making breakfast.”
“You’re welcome.”
Tina ate with gusto. She liked that Henry was handy in the kitchen unlike Bette. Her mind drifted to some of her wife’s most gallant efforts at preparing meals early in their relationship. She smiled at the memory of the number of times she’d eaten burned toast, or soggy rice so as not to hurt Bette’s feelings. When she came out of her reverie Henry was looking at her. He didn’t look any worse for wear but then he hadn’t drunk as much as she did.
“This is really good Henry. I like a man that can cook.”
“Thanks. Being a single dad I had to learn pretty quick, plus I enjoy it.”
“So how are you feeling; any hangover?”
“No. I’m good. I only had beer so no hangover. That was a nice celebration they had for you last night. Congratulations on getting the Director’s job. I think you are going to do wonders for the center.”
“Thanks Henry. I’m excited about doing more. I mean I’ve been filling in the position for several months, but now that it’s permanent I can really start making some changes.”
“Well let me know if there are any legal matters that I can help with.”
“I will. Thanks.”
Tina and Henry spent the entire weekend together at the beach. Even though the relationship had taken a romantic turn there was still a comfort level from already being friends that new couples usually have to work towards. They moved around the condo like an old married couple, sharing the chores and preparing meals.
***
On any given Sunday Tina would have been at the Planet for their traditional family Sunday brunch. Early evening she could be found in the kitchen of her home in West Hollywood preparing side dishes with her sister in law Kit while Bette and Angus grilled the meats for Sunday dinner. Dana and Alice were charged with dessert while Shane and Jenny took care of the drinks. Marina and James had clean up duty since they both inevitably were the last to arrive at the house. They each had their respective business establishment to run and Sunday afternoons offered some down time for them to prepare for their busy week ahead.

Wow, thank you, two chapters in less than 24 hours; well Bat, Tina doesn’t get her answers, but at least she is comparing. I think that perhaps her problem is not about sex with men or women, but with Bette, and not exactly sex; she said doesn’t want to hurt her ex-partner but she really does it; Tina is caged in Bette’s circle; she needs her ‘own’ friends, out of it; no even other lesbians, (probably the lesbian world at WE-HO is small and interconnected). I believe Tina possibly feel her guilt, and suffocation, and probably alone, (I’m just thinking). I like a lot this chapter and at the same time it is very painful (believe me, I’m not masochist); but I am discovering and understanding more about the dysfunctional issue between them. Thanks and pps
proteonomics. I will be posting extra chapters this weekend, because I have the time and the chapters are ready, but also because I will be traveling for business four days next week and won’t have access to my computer to make any regular posts. You can read them all at once or save them to read next week.
Yes, Tina’s issue has little to do with sex as she is coming to realize, but I wanted to give her a compassionate man to do her exploration with rather than someone like Josh. That’s why I made Henry a friend and confidant in this story prior to them becoming sexually involved. She really is taking the wrong approach but I don’t think she knows what to do, and Bette basically kicking her out of the house and telling her to figure things out on her own didn’t help matters. .
Hey Bat, to have you post another chapter so soon is really great, even if I don’t like the context of this chapter, which I should assure you has nothing to do with your writing talent. Tina really seems more than confused to me and should consider talking to some professional. Whatever Tina is looking for I don’t think that she will be able to find those answers by trying to force a relationship with Henry – she doesn’t to me seems ready to date him – and he is setting himself up to some major heartache. Please don’t take my next comment the wrong way – but when Tina wanted him to have sex with her he declined and stated that he wanted to date her, but right at the next day they ended up having sex together?! As for their ‘family’ it’s going to be hard for them to not take sides, it sure is going to get awkward should Tina decide to join their family activities with her ‘boyfriend’ so soon after ending her marriage with Bette – so she either has to attend without Henry or she is going to stay away, either way this means she is going to distance herself from her longtime friends and that’s definitely not healthy. How come Tina didn’t have any friends of her own when meeting Bette? She had been in L.A. for some time working in the movie business, there must have been people she considered friends. Sorry but it’s something I always wondered about while watching the show. But enough – waiting patiently for your next post.
as1219 – I will be posting several chapters this weekend, to make up for not being able to post next week due to my travel schedule so you can read them all or save some for next week.
I agree it was unusual that Tina didn’t have friends of her own, which is part of the reason why I made Henry a friend before they became lovers. Secondly yes it did seem odd that he declined the sex the night before then slept with her the next evening but they did ‘technically go on a date’. However, that wasn’t the point. There were a couple of reasons why he held off. First he did not want to have sex with her while she was drunk. Secondly knowing her agenda he didn’t want to be used for sex just to satisfy her need to explore her ‘feelings for men.’. When he said he wanted to date her, it didn’t mean that he wasn’t going to have sex with her; it meant he wanted it to mean something and by asking her to date he could at least feel like she had feelings for him. I will address this night in a later chapter because I felt they did need to talk about it after they both had a chance to process it.
