Bette’s House – Bette’s POV
Since Tina still had my shorts and tank top she wore home the morning after the first time she spent the night at my house, I was able to wear my own clothes for the drive of shame back to my house. Even though she had thrown them in the washer, her natural scent lingered on the soft threads and kept me company during the drive.
I was pleasantly surprised when I returned home from Tina’s later in the morning to find the band rehearsing away in my backyard. Angus was the lead vocal for a song I had only heard a portion of the night I came home from my first non-date, date with Tina. I entered through my back gate and watched the band enthusiastically play as Angus gave his all. My sister looked on in amazement as she rhythmically shook the tambourine in her hand.
It made me smile that she was so smitten with him. I’ve never known my sister to shack up with any guys who were worth her time, but she and Angus had danced around their attraction for as long as the band had been playing together. That had been the better part of the last two years. She had yet to give in to his charm, though it never stopped him from trying to develop more than a friendly connection on stage with her.
I remember telling him less than a year ago to be patient, because I was sure she would come around eventually.
More than neighborly
While I’m playing by heart
Hoping to start
Something real with you
What do I gotta do
Just want to try something new
Feels like I’m playing by heart for two”
It wasn’t hard to figure out who the song was about, especially since Angus stared at Kit the entire time he sang the chorus. Without wasting anymore time, I pulled out my phone and shot the tail end of the performance on video. Maybe I’m biased, but they really do sound great when they play together.
I ended the recording when the band wrapped up the song. After slipping my phone back into my purse, I rewarded them with a walking ovation and a few whistles. They each looked more than pleased with themselves.
