“You’re kidding?”
“Nope. I feel like he was trying to push me out. He made some lame excuse that alluded to the fact that he didn’t know if me walking out yesterday was my way of quitting or something.” Just talking about her boss caused her irritation to return.
“What? Has he no faith in your integrity, or your loyalty to your job?” Bette asked rhetorically. “I’m so sorry, T. I know what it’s like to have a shitty boss who doesn’t appreciate you. Is there anything I can do?”
“No, sweetie. You’re already doing it. Just listening to me bitch about it is plenty.” Tina said with sincerity. Bette sighed, still smiling. “Anyway, he has commissioned all of my A&R reps to be at your sister’s show tonight and has dangled the promise of a big bonus if one of them can sign the band.”
Chuckling, Bette asked, “Well, did you tell him the band is already technically signed to a label?”
“No.” The blonde answered nonchalantly.
“No?”
“I want him to see what a huge waste of time this is all on his own.”
“Ooooh. You’re bad. I like it.” Bette grinned.
“Are you still at soundcheck?”
“Yes ma’am.”
“How’s it going?”
“Good. Great, actually. I think they’re going to play an awesome show tonight. Everything sounds really good here.”
“It’s a pretty decent venue. Great acoustics, too. I know we said we would meet up before the show, but it’s already after 3. Should I just meet you there tonight? I can hitch a ride with Oscar if you can bring me home.”
“Only if you come home with me.”
“I was planning on it. Besides, I’m sure Jodi will be lurking around in an attempt to woo you away from me.” Tina teased.
“After our last conversation, I doubt it. That wouldn’t stop her however from trying to woo the band away from James, though.”
“Oh, baby, she’s gonna be pissed when she finds out her former assistant stole the client she wanted from her.”
“James didn’t steal anything from her.”
“I know, Bette, but that’s not how she’s going to see it. Is James even going to be there tonight?”
“Yes, he is.”
“Yikes. Let’s keep a close eye on him. You know, just in case.”

Before anything else : a lot of congrats and thanks for ending this so endearing story ! Such a relief to be one of your new readers, it would have been a torture to wait years to get it ;-)
I’m also waiting to see the discomfiture of Aaron the Moron and Snotty Jodi, as well as Kit and the Stouts’ triumph ! Of course with Tibette’s love surrounding all of it – the icing on the cake (… wedding cake, at the end ?) or even chocolate topping, my favorite ;-)
Now, about your request : since “the silliest or dumbest thing” about my “significant other” is that she’s in my heart and soul but not in my life, I’ll spare you the pathetic story of a very-beautiful-lifetime-friendship-comforting-an-unrequisted love…
