The next week, Bette arrives in Santorini and spends her first week there moving between the different locations she visited with Tina. She stays at the same hotel in Oia, and drops in regularly to the hotel bar, scanning her eyes over the tables whenever she enters.

Early Monday evening, Bette leaves her room and stops in at the hotel bar for a drink before heading out to dinner. She enters the room and makes her way to the bar, again slowly casting her eyes over the space.

As she reaches the bar she slows her pace as her eyes fix on a particular table across the room.

(Bartender) What can I get for you?

Bette stands still as she continues to look across the room, and the bartender looks at her quizzically. Bette catches herself and looks back to them and smiles. She nods towards Tina’s table.

(Bette) Could I order a bottle of the wine that woman is drinking? And could you please bring it over to us at the table?

The bartender glances between Bette and the table, and then nods.

(Bartender) No problem

Bette approaches Tina’s table and stands across from her, and Tina remains focused on her menu and doesn’t immediately notice her. Tina eventually looks up and they lock eyes.

Tina raises her eyebrows and holds her gaze for a long moment, and then casually places the menu aside and smiles.

(Tina) Well done

Bette gestures to the empty chair opposite Tina.

(Bette) Is this seat taken?

Tina continues to look at her for a moment.

(Tina) Did you know I would be here? Or did you take a chance that I might be?

Bette remains standing and looks back at her.

(Bette) I took a chance

Tina raises her eyebrows and continues to examine her.

(Bette) You’re a difficult woman to find, you don’t leave much of a trail

(Tina) None usually

Bette smiles at her.

(Bette) Well since you didn’t leave me with a lot to work with, I chanced it that you might return to the same destination at the same time of year

Tina raises her eyebrows and then glances around the room. She smiles and shakes her head, looking back to Bette.
