    “Of course, T. I know you want to take every opportunity you can get this week to talk to him so that he’ll get to know what’s bothering you these days, and maybe get him on your side,” Bette answered quickly. Tina had been chafing under the pressures being put on her by the senior

    “Of course, T. I know you want to take every opportunity you can get this week to talk to him so that he’ll get to know what’s bothering you these days, and maybe get him on your side,” Bette answered quickly. Tina had been chafing under the pressures being put on her by the senior execs of the studio to turn around two problematic film projects that were seemingly stuck half-way through production. Tina had told her about how difficult it had been to have been brought in at the last minute because the execs were unhappy with the other producers who’d been in charge of these.

    Bette continued, “Don’t worry about me. I’ll stay back and take a few more shots of the views here, and maybe hang out a bit longer with Jade…” She turned to Jade and asked with a smile, “That ok with you?”

    “Umm…yeah, yeah, of course!” Jade answered quickly, smiling back at Bette, and then blushed slightly when both Tina and Bette beamed at her. “And yes, it would be great, Tina,” she added, “if we could all go to the party together later.”

    The couple simultaneously reached out to rub each of Jade’s arms affectionately, and like earlier, Jade didn’t know what to do with her hands when beautiful women bestowed their full attention on her, so she jammed them into the pockets of her distressed, torn-up, skin-tight jeans.

    Bette and Tina exchanged a knowing look and, without speaking, decided to stop “torturing” Jade and smiled at each other. They exchanged a quick kiss, and then Tina turned to head down the trail. Bette blew Tina another kiss when the blonde turned around to give the brunette a last look, before walking towards the trail-head that led to the terrace. Bette and Jade watched her in companionable silence. After Tina got to the trailhead, they turned to look again at the Grand Tetons.

    Bette had found during her earlier morning hike with Tina that she needed to gain more experience with the innovative features of the new camera that she’d brought along for the trip, so she started to take a series of shots, keeping up a light conversation with Jade as she snapped pictures. But Jade was only responding to her open-ended questions with short phrases, evidently returning to her shy, reticent state. After a few minutes, the brunette fell quiet as she focused on taking a few test shots of the Grand Tetons in the background while using the charming thatched-roof ranch in the valley as foreground.

      Caveats for the next chapters: there will be references to scenes and characters in “Let It Happen,” “Love Soul Heaven Hell”, “Empire State of Mind”, and “Nobis Pacem”. As a rule I try to write each chapter in a way that stands on its own, but you will understand the mindsets of the characters that appear in the chapter, or the backdrop of the scene, if you are at least somewhat aware of the other books. Apologies in advance if a scene or dialogue doesn’t seem to make sense. I will try to embed links to relevant segments of the above-mentioned books to help you “bounce” to them .

      As always, do let me know by pm, comment, or other means what you think. Helps me to know if what I’m writing is making passable sense, at least.
