Chapter V – Yes, I’m Ready
Jade bit her lip. Sleeping next to Rian while she was with Fabienne and Rian was with Dan allowed her to keep things chaste between them the night they’d slept together one Christmas Eve, even if the soft, yielding flesh that had pressed against her all night had been tempting her unconscionably.
“The last good night of sleeping I had … without waking up for anything … was in your arms, Jade,” Rian added softly, not bothering to try to disguise her feelings, or pretend they were still playing. “So how about it?”
Jade rolled away, to Rian’s right. From the last time they’d slept together, she knew that Rian liked that arrangement. “Okay.” She tried to swallow, keep breathing. She carefully slipped her arm underneath Rian’s neck. “Do you want to face me, or…?”
Rian looked at her with an inscrutable expression, as if noting Jade’s sudden nervousness. “Are you really sure you’re up for all of this?”
Of course. Jade reached around her back, slipping down until she could palm an ass cheek, and, as gently as she could, started to pull Rian over to her side. She kissed the top of Rian’s hair after they’d successfully repositioned Rian to a comfortable position on her side, and Rian was resting her head on “the nook” formed between Jade’s shoulder and her neck. “The question, Rian, is: are you? Are you ready?”
xxxxxxxxxx
Later that week
Rian pushed off from the sink to grasp the railing attached to the sidewall of the bathroom. Her wet hand slipped on the metal surface but she stopped herself from falling by bracing her forearm and elbow on the railing. The small acrylic vase she’d been holding on her other hand clattered to the floor, however.
She looked quickly towards the bed through the open bathroom door. Jade stirred for a second, turning from her side to lie down on her back, spreading her legs apart slightly.
Rian waited, barely breathing. Jade settled down, and shortly thereafter, returned to taking slow, steady breaths, mouth slightly open, in the midst of a REM sleep cycle.
Jade. Never had anyone made her feel the way Jade made her feel, even though they hadn’t made love yet. Although Rian thought she’d been in love with Jade months ago, especially when she’d been clinging to the memory of her while out in the middle east, she knew she was falling ever deeper in love with Jade after spending the past week, practically, with her.

I’ve been re-reading all your stories in an effort to pin down exactly what draws me to your writing. First, you have ability to vividly paint a scene by addressing all of your reader’s senses. Sentences like “Fabienne’s heels were rapping out a staccato-like rhythm as the couple traversed the black-and-white tiled floor of the famed corridor.”, feed my sense of sight and sound that virtually put me right in the scene with the characters. Or passages like “Her silky, smooth skin and the natural pleasant-smelling scent of lavender, blossom, linden, peaches and mango that wafted out of her were intoxicating. Her lips were soft and sweet, warm and delicious…” heighten my sense of touch, taste and smell that I can feel the deep emotions of the characters right along with them.
Second, you write characters in such a way that you can’t help but root for them. Each main character, whether it be Bette, Tina, Diane, Jules, Harley, Jade or Rian, is flawed and broken at some level and must go on an emotional journey of self-discovery to find true happiness. As a writer, you give your reader an instant connection to the character by weaving in their inner thoughts, feelings, hopes and fears. As a reader, I feel an affinity toward the character’s struggle because I feel like I actually know her and can a part of me in her.
In pouring over all your works, I particularly like how you maintain a consistent timeline across all the characters and stories, and how many characters and storylines bleed over into each other. You have a well-developed talent in not only writing style that puts me right in the scene, but also in character development that makes me feel like I’m experiencing the moment right along with them. I certainly hope you continue to grace us with your talent and post stories here for years to come.
I tip my hat to Skydancer, you are a rare talent.
????. I. Can’t. Even.
Thank you doesn’t seem enough.
thanks Rian live.
the scene the Jade discovers Rian in the restaurant, our!
was awesome, all emotions of hade mixed between joy and
anger, and at the end to find out what really happened, was
sensational.
And now there’s no reason to live a big love.
You are fantastic!
The entire constellation.
